shropshire 0 #1 February 16, 2010 So, it's brats Half-Term holiday week and the 'tourists' are blocking 'MY' pistes... So it was off into the backwoods this afternoon (I love my Scotts and skins). I saw some great sights and almost no peeps -( Heaven). Is this for you, or are you too lazy? (.)Y(.) Harmless 0 #5 February 16, 2010 I've never been on snow skies, nothing against it but I don't live anywhere worth going anymore. Love some back country snowboarding in Utah though. I started out on water skis."Damn you Gravity, you win again"
JohnMitchell 16 #6 February 16, 2010 I started out on water skis too. There's some transference of skills. If you're in Utah, there's some great skiing there, and a lot of freestylers are getting off the boards and on the skis. You should check it out. Niki1 1 #8 February 16, 2010 That activity is for young people with rubber bodies. I went snow skiing ONE time. I found out that I can go way, WAY faster than I need to and WAY, WAY. WAY faster than I want to. But I did get a round of applause from the lodge deck as I picked myself up at the end of the last run. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket? Two countries, seperated by a common languageTranslation : It's kids school holidays (again) and they are all on my ski 'trails'... so I went back country skiing on my Yank Skiis - i.e did not use the lift system.... oh and I had a jolly good time. Amazon 7 #10 February 16, 2010 QuoteMy lazy ass wants a ride up in a chopper! Been there done that.... and have nearly died in 3 avalanches. Back country skiing is one of THE most dangerous things you can participate in. To be trapped in an avalanche is a completely helpless feeling.

Harmless 0 #13 February 16, 2010 Nope, Alabama Was stationed in Utah for 3 years though and spent every afternoon on Powder Mountain's night side and every weekend in powder country or cobabe canyon. Most skiers didn't like the deep powder. I did think the ones that pivoted on the toes (I think called telemark) looked pretty fun though. Also in the terrain park, some of those trick skies were awesome to watch. BTW... I learned to water ski in Washington while my dad was stationed at Bangor. But the seasons were better (and I changed to wake boarding) when we moved to Oregon. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Tiger6513 0 #15 February 16, 2010 Damn sorry to hear that Amazon, I have been lucky so far. I haven't been on the mountain in a while and don't plan on any backcountry. I love the powder but I am on the east coast and we mostly get ice ( after the fucking tourists are done scraping off our good snow, flatlanders! )Travis Roy Foundation.
