Scary cars

Recommended Posts

How about the 'smart car' a go cart that can be driven on the streets and has about 70 HP so getting up to highway speeds can take over a minute...no to mention getting in a wreck with one of these POS's would probably be fatal. Even with a stuck gas pedal that can be rectified by simply switching the car into neutral...sure the engine might fry but you can probably have a much higher rate of survival than in one of those retarded 'smart cars'.

Unfortunatly I don't think most people know how to react to a stuck gas peddle. Yes putting it in neutral would stop the acceleration but I think most peoples reaction would be to jam on the brakes and kinda freeze up and forget to drive.

Some of this stuff is definitely not for me.

For example, I borrowed my sister's car a few months ago, and couldn't figure out why it seemed to be stalling out a bit on the highway. I figured out after a while, that it has some kind of forward-looking radar system, and when a car cuts in front of you, the radar detects that you are following too close, and it automatically slows down the engine to back-off.

In the heavy traffic around Houston, you would never get anywhere with a system like that engaged. I want to just let me determine my own safe following distance, depending upon conditions.

Sorry but I am laughing at all the problems Toyota have been having lately with their cars
(and Toyota used to make a good product).

I assure you this car is not too scary. Well not too scary in regard to wondering if the brakes or the accelerator will malfunction. I can take my car out on my local race track and have the accelerator floored on the main straight and then in a matter of 400 or so feet, take my foot off of the accelerator, put it on the brake, apply a little pressure, heal-toe-blip in order to down shift a gear, a little more brake pressure, off of the brakes and make turn #1 with total confidence that the car will do what it was engineered to do, which is to corner fast on a race track.

Porsche there is no substitute. B|

I took one for a drive at the dealer in Bellevue.... how the hell does anyone who is not a midget drive one of those. You dont drive it as much as you wear it... I felt like I was back flying a Cessna 150. with an instructor pilot who was 6'5" and 260 pounds..:S:S

Smart cars are pretty safe

Originally I never would have believed this, but here is a crash test video that shows the Smart car is safer than some may think. However don't try this crash test at home. You probably won't survive.

Heard a new term this past week called "Prius Panic". Named for those hybrid owners who fail to merge successfully in to freeway traffic and thus cause collisions as they brake and swerve.

Eh don't know what makes the Prius any different acceleration wise from a Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent, Honda Civic DX/LX/CX etc... They all run about 16.9 - 17 flat in the quarter mile. Slow as hell, but I haven't heard Rio Panic or Accent Panic yet. Guess it just doesn't have the same ring to it as Prius Panic.

You might survive that impact but your feet and lower legs would be mush. [:/]

Most likely because the Prius is more well known by alot more people. It's touted as THE car to buy if you're environmentally conscious. Thus it got the name.
