Head south to Socorro to see the VLA. http://www.vla.nrao.edu/genpub/tours/ I would say visit the Trinity Site but it's only open to the public twice per year. However, check out the sign on the fence: http://www.atomictourist.com/trinity.htm You can leave your make-up at home. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. There's a tram up to the top of Sandia Peak too. There's a restaurant/bar at the top. There are great motorcycle runs out there, but this time of year it's probably not an option. Watching the river from the bridges is cool too. IIRC, Sandia Labs has a mini- display area open to the public that shows what type of work is done there - at least the unclassified work. Kirtland AFB might have something open to the public too. .. Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

gonzalesna 0 #14 February 11, 2010 Well, been here a week and a half. Last Saturday, I got a chance to go see the Trinity Test Site. Not much there, but then again, didn't expect to see much at the site of a nuclear detonation.I did get to see and hold some trinitite, and so far, I haven't grown any extra appendages and I don't yet glow in the dark. Haven't gone out much, but I did hit up a restaurant called Tucanos. GREAT FOOD! It's an expensive meal, but it's all you can eat and well worth the money spent. At the course I'm going to, they have a complete museum containing every nuclear weapon we've ever had in our inventory. Pretty amazing how far we've come in our technology. Last week, we had a older gentleman come speak to us that was at the 1968 Thule, Greenland accident. Lots of photos and lots of knowledge.Tomorrow, we should get a chance to talk to a gentleman who was involved in the Manhattan Project. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. gonzalesna 0 #18 February 11, 2010 Quote I have always wanted to get out to the Trinity Site, that is cool. How much green glass is left? Loses it's glassy coloration pretty quickly. It oxidizes kinda like silver does, but faster. There's quite a bit still out there, but you gotta look pretty hard to find it. Most pieces are smaller than a marble. It being a national landmark, it's illegal to take the trinitite. Again, not much at the site, but it's kinda cool to be able to say I've walked where the first nuke ever went off. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse.
