SpeedRacer 1 #1 February 5, 2010 If you're getting snowed in on Saturday, you need to have french toast for breakfast. It's the law, apparently. Everyone buys lots of bread, milk & eggs just before a blizzard. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

P.S. put some vanilla extract in the egg & milk dipping mix. It's da bomb.
NWFlyer 2 #5 February 5, 2010 Quote P.S. put some vanilla extract in the egg & milk dipping mix. It's da bomb. People make it without vanilla extract? Who knew? Good thing my mom wasn't one of them. Little bit of cinnamon and sugar, too. Mmmm... I'm not getting snowed in but I might have to buy some bread, too (got everything else). Maybe I'll check the day-old shelf at the neighborhood bakery."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. I grew up in a very health conscience family and they always used whole grain wheat. I'm thinking sourdough would be better, though. Now it's a matter of personal taste. I'm a big lover of lots of different kinds of fancy breads, and so I rarely buy Wonder-bread style "regular white bread" at the market. One exception is that I do think it's good for French toast. I don't like whole wheat for my French toast, although I will use it if that's all I've got. Other good (and to me, logical options): Cinnamon-raisin bread, cinnamon swirl; Jewish-style challa (egg bread).
kmills0705 0 #8 February 5, 2010 Sourdough is the way to go. I am health conscious too, but not a fan of whole grain brain for french toast. I never knew people made it without vanilla. Place one piece french toast on plate layer some nice crispy bacon on said piece layer some velveeta cheese over the bacon (use the block and SLICE it, don't use the pre-wrapped slices) Place one piece french toast on top Squish down with your spatula Add butter and maple syrup YUMMMMMMMMM!!! It is SO filling I normally take one piece of french toast and cut it in half and make it from that'Shell
blacklabjumper 0 #10 February 5, 2010 It has started snowing here in richmond, VA. Looks like DC, baltimore and Philly are going to get the bulk of the storm. blacklabjumper 0 #12 February 5, 2010 LOL actually I did but only because I had ran out o fthose items. It just happened to be timed with the snow. I was born and raised in New England. This is nothing. I moved south to avoid the snow but this year has been rather unusual for us here in Virginia. My neighbors are blaming "the yankee" for all the snow this year.Rodriguez Brother #1626 Dudiest Skydiver #1962 DPH #-
DavidB 0 #13 February 5, 2010 Who did they blame last year? Yea, I keep hearing 18-36 for central/southern NJ & to add insult to injury; high winds for some heavy beach erosion. Grocery store was jamming @ 11AM. Still plenty of bread, milk & eggs on the shelves then, though I did get one loaf of bread. My truck is gassed up & I have over 2 gallons in the can for the snow blowers, both of which are at least 3/4 full. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. blacklabjumper 0 #14 February 5, 2010 Well the last couple of years down here have been pretty mild snow wise. I just moved into this house last April so this is the first winter living in this house. Sounds like you are ready to go. Thats what experinced people do not like most of the people down here. Good luck hope the power stays on. Sletzer 3 #19 February 5, 2010 I was actually supposed to fly into DC at 2 p.m. today but my flight was cancelled. Looks like I'll just have to sit at the house and drink through the rainstorm until Sunday, when I'll be jumping in Sunny 59 degree weather. Feel bad for my fiance' I was going to see though..... hope she enjoys her hotel room in DC. She stocked up on wine and liquor this morning before the storm hit- I'm so proud of her! I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251

NWFlyer 2 #23 February 6, 2010 QuoteCinnamon-raisin bread, cinnamon swirl; Jewish-style challa (egg bread). Best French toast I have had, ever ever ever was made with cinnamon rolls. Not cinnamon bread, but massive cinnamon rolls that were wonderful treats in their own right. Actually ltdiver could probably go enjoy that French toast since it's at a place sort of in her neck of the woods - at Brandon's Diner in Riverside."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
