Now I know why God invented washing machines..

Recommended Posts

Just did 2 loads of laundry by hand - it took longer than putting them in the washing machine, my hands have blisters and my back is killing me..

When I find a new place it will DEFINITELY have a washing machine or at least be a hell of a lot closer to the laundromat.. :|

Hi Nat,
Eons ago or so it seems, when I was a kid, my Grandma had an old wash tub up on bricks behind the garage that she "washed" clothes in. She'd fill it about half full of water with the garden hose, throw in the clothes, build a fire under it and add some "Red Dog Lye" along with the octagon soap!! My dad carved her a ladel out of an old pine board to stir the clothes. The grain was all feathered from the lye eating away at it!! She washed mainly "heavy" things in it like overalls, work clothes and old bed sheets made out of grain sacks!! Polyester has no place here!!
Fast forward a few years to when I was in boot camp in the Navy. A bucket of water, a capful of soap and a scrub brush on these concrete wash tables!! Then later out at sea, just tie all your clothes to a piece of line and drag them over the side in the ocean for a while!! Are we having fun yet??

You could always just put it in the bathtub fill it up to the point that the clothing is just covered with warm water.. put in the laundry detergent.... put on a pair of shorts and a tank.... and do a workout of running in place for 30 mintues on the clothing... drain the dirty water(put the clothing to one side of the tub so when you are stomping on it the dirty water can drain and fill it up deeper this time with fresh water and repeat for another 30 minutes... drain.. and refill the water and repeat for a ten minute cool down.. get good sturdy hangers and hang the clothing up over the bathtub( get one of the spring loaded shower curtains to place over the middle of the bathtub). benefits.. a good workout.. and clean clothing.

Soooo... you're saying you could be enticed by a man who owns a washing machine and dryer!!??

I got a high capacity front loader, with an extra long cycle for when things are really dirty. ;):o:$

From my trips over to Europe, I've found laundromats are even rarer there than in the States. Did a lot of laundry in the hotel sink myself. :S

Hi skb,
After the sea drag, 'ya get a bucket of fresh water and rince em'. Usually find some space and hang em to dry. Without the fresh h2O rince they can get grim!

My dad said like sandpaper.

Of course on a WWII destroyer lots of clothes got rinsed in the same barrel.

It helped if you were towards the head of the line.

Not so many in France eh?

In Germany and Italy laundry facilities were not hard to find.

In France not so much.

DO not lend a French person your favorite sweater for a week.[:/]:|B|

John,

I'd have been much more comfortable if you had linked that reply back to Nat's OP and not my smart assed comment.

:S

Sorry, buddy. I figured you knew me well enough not to get confused.:D Yes, that post was for any sky chicka that needs to do a load of laundry at our house.:P
