JohnRich 4 #1 January 7, 2010 I've got a now-old 1993 analog TV. It does not have the modern plug receptacles for audio & video - just a simple coax cable connection. See the attached image. My Dish TV signal comes in on a cable from the roof, through a Dish cable box, through a VCR, and then to the TV. All of that works great. I can watch satellite TV, and play VHS video tapes, without any problem. The problem I have is with trying to attach modern gizmos to this setup. I have a DVD, and a video game unit, that I can't get to work. There's no way to plug them directly into the TV. And plugging them into the cable box, which has the correct receptacles, to try and control the TV doesn't seem to work. Is there any way I can hook a DVD player up to this configuration, without buying a new TV?
monkycndo 0 #2 January 7, 2010 Any video store/Radio Shack should have have a switch that allows you to connect multiple devices of various inputs to it with a coax output.50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
ryoder 1,590 #3 January 7, 2010 If you really insist on using that old thing, understand the video quality will suffer. What you need is an RF Modulator to modulate the video into a TV signal. DeNReN 0 #4 January 7, 2010 alot of older VCR's can be used for inputs.....usually one set of RCA inputs on the back and one on the front.....you must have or had a VCR...
Harmless 0 #5 January 7, 2010 What you really need is two different functions... an AV switch to plug everything into, and an RF modulator to send that signal to your TV... Here is a quick search for a combination device that does both. http://www.amazon.com/RCA-CRF940-Modulator-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B00008X5DD/ref=pd_sim_e_4 Plug your satellite, vcr, dvd, and anything else in to this. There are devices with more or different inputs, depending on your needs and the fancier one are auto switching or come with remote controls "Damn you Gravity, you win again"
PhreeZone 20 #6 January 7, 2010 They make a RF modulator that you can get at Walmart or any electronics place for about $25 to do this. Its got the RCA jacks on the converter and 2 coax jacks, one for incoming and one for outgoing signal. Just hook the device up to the RCA ports and set the TV to channel 3 and everything will work. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13072965 Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

JohnRich 4 #8 January 8, 2010 Thanks to everyone for the advice, explanations and recommendations. I think I know what to ask for now, to get all my new gizmos talking to my old TV. I figured there had to be something out there that would do the signal conversion, I just didn't know what they might be called. Thanks!

Herky 0 #11 January 8, 2010 I remember on my old SNES when I was a kid, whenever the image would start to static or scramble, having to wiggle the rf modulator or tap it. Good times.
