Except that those of us in the know don't count Jan 1, 2000 as the beginning of the decade. Jan 1, 2000 is the start of the final year of the decade. Jan 1, 2001 was the start of the decade (and century and millenium) therefore the end of the current decade is Dec 31, 2010.
