1969912 0 #1 December 8, 2009 Stacy Peralta's "Riding Giants" was a really good movie about the history of big wave surfing. Seen it? Just saw another good one last night called "Waveriders." The first half or so of Waveriders covers the very early introduction of surfing to California by an Irish/Hawaiian named George Freeth in ~1900. Freeth was an amazing guy, but tragically died during the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918. The second half is about the amazing surfing being done in the Atlantic off the coast of Ireland with commentary by world-class Irish professional surfers who started surfing as kids there. Anyone seen it? Peej 0 #6 December 8, 2009 "Busting down the Door" rates as the best surfing film i saw last year. It's not on DVD yet and only showed in limited runs in cinemas but if you can see it, do so. It's about surfing legends Shaun Thompson and Rabbit Bartholomew starting the movement for what would become professional surfing as we know it today. really, really good. Here's a link to the trailers etc http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=busting+down+the+door&search_type=&aq=f Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

I've always loved the idea of traveling around the world, in tune with the rotation of the earth around the sun, so that you are always in the summer season. I'd like to do a year-long skydiving vacation like that sometime.

llloyd 0 #20 December 8, 2009 ...and from the UK i offer you... Blue Juice http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1505427737/ A brit flick comedy based around surfing, not so much a coming of age movie, more a refusing to grow up movie (kinda like most skydivers) Not sure if the comedy will transpose the atlantic but I reckon it's worth a download if you can find it. it's got a young Obi Wan Kenobi in it, and Catherine Zeta Douglas
skybill 22 #21 December 9, 2009 Hi #528, No kidding!! The movie (Beach Blanket Bingo) was at the Ritz Theater and after jumping on Saturday, we (Southland Skydivers) all went to the flick! First canopy opening and it was a "Cheapo!!" Leon Riche yells out,"What No P-C's!!!" (Para Commander) I think the year was 1965. It's not so much a surf film, but it is a beach film.
JerryBaumchen 1,422 #23 December 9, 2009 Hi John, Quote I was hoping there were other living people who remembered "Endless Summer". Just us old farts, I guess. Yup that's me. In mid-'65 there was this very small ad for this surfing movie being shown at a local high school. I thought 'What the heck' & found one of the most amazing films I have ever seen. IMO, it is the ONLY surfing movie. So what's stopping you from grabbing your rig & following the sun? Quote That reminds me of the Sam Elliot movie "Lifeguard", who is in his 30's and still wants to be a lifeguard for the rest of his life, 'Lifeguard' was one of those film you just do NOT forget. And with the very lovely Anne Archer at her very best. BTW, Sam is originally from Portland; just a little name-dropping. JerryBaumchen

Yep, all the rest are just movies with surfing scenes in them. "Endless Summer" really was a great flick but I'm not going to go find it and watch it in case my memory is making it a better flick than it really was.
