Hi #528,
No kidding!! The movie (Beach Blanket Bingo) was at the Ritz Theater and after jumping on Saturday, we (Southland Skydivers) all went to the flick! First canopy opening and it was a "Cheapo!!" Leon Riche yells out,"What No P-C's!!!" (Para Commander) I think the year was 1965. Frankie and Annette hitting the surf and silk!!!

You mean this past Saturday!?..... or some Saturday way back in 1965? :)

Hi #528,
It was a ...Long.....Long...time ago...in a Galaxy....far....far....away...! Talk about a "Time Warp!!"

Yup, summer of '65.... Long Boards and Round Parachutes!! Funny how that goes. Then,"As Time Goes by!," The Boards, 'Chutes and Bikini's got Smaller!!

Yup that's me. In mid-'65 there was this very small ad for this surfing movie being shown at a local high school. I thought 'What the heck' & found one of the most amazing films I have ever seen.

IMO, it is the ONLY surfing movie.......................................

Yep, all the rest are just movies with surfing scenes in them. "Endless Summer" really was a great flick but I'm not going to go find it and watch it in case my memory is making it a better flick than it really was. :)

That's kind of where I'm at with my interest in surfing films that give details re: history, personalities, trivia, etc. Riding Giants and Waveriders are both rich in those.

After reading this thread I bought DVDs of a couple of the movies mentioned...Extreme Summer and Busting Down The Door.

Extreme Summer is not one I would recommend spending money on but Busting Down the Door is one I would recommend.

I know nothing about surfing or the personalities and BDTD is a great documentary with lots of fine surfing footage. I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I just finished watching it...I put it in the drive thinking I'd check out a few minutes before heading off to bed and now it's 1 in the morning and I watched the whole thing through...I just couldn't stop watching it.

Awesome! I'm stoked you enjoyed it. ;)

Shaun Thompson is a bit of a legend over here in South Africa. We all used to have posters of him on our walls when we were kids, in fact I had a signed one that was my prize possession for many years. I wish i could get hold of BDTD on DVD over here, i'm hoping they release it sometime in the New Year.
