JohnMitchell 16 #8 December 14, 2009 Quote who is Michael Vick ? The returned, and hopefully reformed NFL quarterback who went to prison for running a dog fighting business. He bred them, fought them and mercilessly killed the ones that didn't meet his standards. Very bad stuff by a guy who thought he was above the rules. squirrel 0 #9 December 14, 2009 Not that I really watched sports anymore anyway, but I now boycott all NFL games, merchandize and anything else that even remotely has a connection to Vick or the people that contracted him to "play." He is an evil person, and the NFL is just as bad for rewarding him with a contract. I feel this guy should be picking up trash on the side of the highway for life. but hey, this is only my opinion. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? Andrewwhyte 1 #13 December 14, 2009 i would boo Vick, but that's just because he is an Eagle.Seriously, I think the punishment he served was appropriate for the crime. He served it and now is trying to rebuild his career. By the way is not the first sports star to be in the dog-fighting business. - In the 90s Nate Newton proudly claimed to be breeding American Pitt Bulls and was arrested in 1991 at a dog fight. -Clinton Portis defended Vick to the press saying dog fighting was just part of southern culture and if on private property was no one else's business. -LeSean Johnson received a 5 year deferred sentence in 2005 for owning an operation where 200 dogs were seized. That's right a deferred sentence. - Basketball player Quyntel Woods (Portland) received 12months probation and community hours for hosting a dog fight. --USC running back coach Todd McNair has been twice convicted of cruelty but not convicted (charged) with keeping dogs for fighting. 17 adults and 5 puppies were found. Fine and Community hours.

jdfreefly 1 #16 December 14, 2009 QuoteWhy would they? Aren't most NFL players ex-cons? No, actually most of them are hardworking professional athletes who feel blessed to get to play a game for a living and are disappointed by the way a small minority of the players handle their wealth and fame. I'd never heard of dog fighting until started traveling out of the south. Southern culture also was heavily invested in slavery. Ever hear of a mandingo? White folk don't see their dogs as what they really are , y'all sees them as part of the family. Legally they are property. Michael Vick treated his dogs extremely well compared to the standards set by the southern black community. He fed them regularly. Many black children aren't treated to a meal half as often as MV's dogs ate. And most of us hope our kids will grow up to be in the ring(an I'm talkin about boxing ,football ,basketball, etc.) and make us lots of money. I also find it interestin' that many who are down on Vick for sending his dogs to fight are all about honoring those who waged War based on lies and honoring those conditioned to believe those lies and who go to WAR to kill humans.
