Racer vs Icon part 2

Recommended Posts

Hello all....

Would like to say thanks for all the previous input..

I now actually have all the proper info...

RACER

Its the new container with tuck tabs
2003 container
2003 sabrre 2 150
2003 pd 160 reserve
2003 cypress

$3000

total setup has 15 jumps and is all upto date and ready to jump....

=====================================

ICON

2004 container
2004 pilot 150
2004 150 reserve
1999 cypress

$3400

total setup has 100 jumps and everything is upto date and ready to jump

=================================

I've never jumped either of these types of containers.

Now as I see it....I'm gettiong more for my money with the RACER.....the only thing is the looks...the racer is black with gold piping and the icon to me looks very sharp....

Now I would like to see what the rest of the forum has to say,,,,

Once again thanks for all the input...

seems you already have the answer... You said you're getting more for your money with the Racer... so what is the problem? The colors?!? Get real... B|

You wont see your container anyway once it's on your back..

Also think about the cypres thing... the one on Racer is Cypres2 and the other isn't. There's some interesting things you have to consider.. about the maintenance and all...

personally, I think the cypress is the decission maker on this selection. The Racer set up is a better deal due to the cypress yr. Everything else is close enough to cancell the other out. Ultimately it comes down to what you want to spend and what you want to wear. I happen to think black and gold are pretty snazzy colors;), besides black goes with anything.

Given the info you provided, I would personally choose the Racer. I am not saying the Racer is generally superior to the Icon, but in this particular situation, it appears to be the better deal for the following reasons:

1. Lower cost
2. Fewer jumps
3. Comes with PD canopies, whichtend to have a higher new and resale value.
4. Newer CYPRES 2 compared to older CYPRES

At the end of the day, though, it is YOU that has to be happy with your decision.

Where do you see that? All I see is "2003 Cypres". Original Cypres' were available new in '03, IIRC.

The Racer appears to me to be a screamin' good deal considering the low jump numbers on it.

yeaahh.. you're probably right!! My bad... what year is it now anyway??? ;) Honestly, as I was writing my reply I was thinking my (now sold) Cypres2 that I bought last year... thinking it was 2003 then and 2004 now :$

I miss my cypres.. and my old Javelin...

hmmm maybe a bit off-topic, sorry! :P

Why don't you try them on for size. To me that would be the most important thing i'd like to know when i'm buying a harness.
Thats way more important than colors or DOM.
