gravrat141 0 #1 November 29, 2009 I'm thinking of some possible mobile applications that maybe helpful to skydivers among other people that do awesome stuff and I'm trying to gauge what mobile devices are most commonly used. I see an awfull lotnof iPhones and other gadgety little things around my home Dz.
AggieDave 6 #2 November 29, 2009 A really solid aviation/skydiving centric weather app would be nice. Something that gave the forecast with wind and cloud levels and uppers by the hour. With moving radar and satellite imagery. There are websites you can go to for most of the information, but its spread out and not in a nice compact format that is easily accessed and read by phones.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." JohanW 0 #3 November 29, 2009 I have a Nokia 6510i, I think. That probably qualifies as about the technology level of cans and a piece of string. Why don't you just make a website?Johan. I am. I think.
aresye 0 #4 November 29, 2009 Screw apps. The only thing you need for a good skydiving mobile, is good service, durability, and maybe even a GPS function. If you land out, I want to make sure that: A. I'll have service, even if I'm surrounded by trees. B. Relatively easy, and fast to use, in case I'm injured. C. Durability, to survive a crash. D. A GPS function so I can either send someone my coordinates, or find my way back to a road. I currently use an LG Decoy, with Verizon, and VZ Navigator.Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

Gawain 0 #6 November 30, 2009 While you're considering where to start building your applications, I heard that the WebOS from Palm is "super-open". Apparently what took three weeks for Pandora to do for the iPhone, took only four days for WebOS (Palm Pre/Pixie). That might be a good starting point and lend itself well to the Android OS and ultimately RIM BlackBerry and Apples, which are solid, just quite a bit more proprietary. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
