xtravrtsoul 0 #1 November 26, 2009 So for some reason we have low signal and we are not getting certain channels on our tv. The customer service people are idiots (I guess she was nice tho) and could not help us. One day working the next nothing. On each receiver it is different channels that are not coming in so one would get channel 8 and the other nothing. So the customer service lady wants to CHARGE us 50 buck-a-roos to have a guy come out and look at it. WHAT??? We did not do a damn thing and they want to charge us. There is nothing blocking the dish and it has not been moved. You can look at the bolts and there is dirt on them so noone has moved the dish. Tied the reset button and all the troubleshooting. Does anyone have any idea or has had this happen to them before? Oh and it is a clear ass day too.You create life, life does not create you.

My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .
xtravrtsoul 0 #3 November 26, 2009 Yeah they are usually really helpful and been very good about helping out without charging us anything because we have been with them forever. I don't know if my hubby tried the whole unplug and reboot thing. The lady said she could detect a low signal so maybe he did not think of it. I will do it right now. DavidB 0 #4 November 26, 2009 Learn from my $50 mistake a couple months ago. I whacked the dish with the mower. I have the older system (all black box says "HUGHES" on it, not the later black/silver box, but should be the same). MENU/SYSTEM SET UP/SIGNAL When you get there move the cursor to "TEST" & hit "SELECT" (or ENTER) on the remote. The system will now test all the signal strengths it is receiving, accompanied by a rather loud beeping. That sound is the key here!!! Using that sound, you can "adjust" the dish yourself (the better the signal, the faster the beeping). Hope this helps! When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. CSpenceFLY 1 #5 November 26, 2009 I would first try adjusting the dish. Loosen the bolts so you can move it but it holds if you let go of it. If it is not the dish, you may have a damaged cable of an LNB (thing on the dish) that is going bad. I have a bad slice on the one on my motorhome. It acts like yours sometime. faulknerwn 38 #6 November 27, 2009 And with most Satellite TV companies, all you have to do is tell them to cancel your service because they won't help and you won't pay for no tv, and they'll promptly wave that $50 service charge.. :-)
xtravrtsoul 0 #7 November 27, 2009 Thank you for all the help. We have done everything possible. We have the slimline dish and we have moved the thing around. It was working in the morning and then nothing by evening. Done all the signall thing and the beeping we get on 2 satellites but it still won't do shit. Then we have been researching and some peeps have said that the multi channel may have gone out. But our dish should not have one then again in research it should. I don't know we will try the moving the dish around again and if that does not work my ass will get on the phone and then we won't get charged for a guy to come out here. If anyone else can think of anything let me know. :)You create life, life does not create you.
DavidB 0 #8 November 27, 2009 Check the cable connection at the dish, then follow it into the house. There should be a splitter/amplifier somewhere between the dish & the TV. If this splitter has a line that plugs into a 110v outlet, it's the old style & could be the problem. Mine was replaced with one that doesn't require 110v on the suggestion of the tech. He said if it's 5 years old, & it was, it's bound fail sooner or later so we may as well replace it now. Thinking about it now, this is likely the cause of the weak signal. Wish I'd remembered this earlier... When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
xtravrtsoul 0 #9 November 28, 2009 Thank you again for all the help. We finally got a guy on the phone from Direct tv who knwe what he was doing. We re-aligned the satelite and now it is working. But it was actually kind of nice having no tv for a couple of days. You create life, life does not create you.
