Landlord keeps barging in..

I thought for some time that the landlord was coming into my flat when I wasn't around.. But then I kept thinking "Nat.. You're being paranoid.." Then on Saturday he just walked right in and he apologised by saying he thought I was away for the weekend!! He just wanted to fetch something from the cellar, but he walked right in, through my room, to the cellar, grabbed what he wanted and was out again..

This morning, he barged in AGAIN, but I wasn't dressed.. This is the last straw.. I'm locking myself in from now on and sending him an email reminding him that he is not legally allowed to come into my flat without reasonable advanced notice/permission unless it's an EMERGENCY.

Two suggestions-

Date a hulking military type- the next time he decides to have an unannounced visit he'll be confronted by a snorting bruiser-problem solved.


Be alluring, have a friend stay over and pop out with a camera- then while both smiling at him in his underwear recommend he offer a few years rent free.

oh shit, hadn't thought of that, he might even be lurking in the cellar while she's in her flat....Yeah- honestly thats a bad situation,she should move out. Not to increase her paranoia but no good will happen from a cellar access in her flat, that's always an excuse for landlord and maintenance intrusions and who knows what the fuck goes on down there.

But the guys have a valid point. I don't know how things run in the UK, but I would advise an American to file a police report to document the problem. This guy is WAY out of bounds. Even if he thought he was legit, he should have knocked and announced before entering. If he got in while you were undressed, it was NOT an accident. You should be outraged.

And you have more important things to concentrate on right now.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I have two friends who are in the criminal psychology field- they both described a behavior called "grooming" this is when a sex offender tests his victims by doing small intrusions on personal space to check the reaction. For example a perp might sit next to a woman at a bar and in the middle of a conversation pluck out one of her hairs just to see how she reacts- giddy or weak reaction equals a good candidate for abuse.

Not saying that this guy is a perp but it seems like he is testing her reactions.

I'm an apartment superintedent in Canada, not sure about the UK, but in Canada we have to give 24 hours written notice before we enter a tenenats flat for ANY reason, and we have to ensure we knock, open the door a bit and announce our intended entry. Check your lease and also contact the Landlord and Tenant Board to confirm.

I'm not a UK lawyer, but even there they do affect the trappings of civiliz/sation.

I can't imagine that a landlord has the right to enter the premises without reasonable advance notice in the absence of an emergency. That being said, if you know any UK solicitiors, check with him/her. One of the questions you might ask is whether you can unilaterally change the lock on the door to prevent unauthoriz/sed access.

In the meantime, since you were in the military, I presume you've had reasonable martial arts training. Next time he does that, beat the living shit out of him, preferably with some kind of bludgeon; and then claim you had soap in your eyes, couldn't see who he was, and thought you were being attacked by an intruder. (Of course, check with your local solicitor first to see if this is ok. :))

So let me get this straight - you read a thread about the landlord walking in on Nataly who was naked and this makes you NOT want to own an apartment here[:/] Jeez I thought you'd be sending a big to Natalies landlord to buy him out:D

Reminds me of the time I was cleaning my .30'06 rifle in the garage. My young daughter said "Dad, there's a man in the driveway to see you." I absent mindedly walked out around the corner still carrying the rifle. Turns out it was a state congressman running for reelection. :S He didn't run off or duck at the sight of a voter carrying a firearm, so I figured he must be honest enough to vote for. ;):D
