johnnyoneeye 0 #1 June 21, 2005 I am looking at buy a used rig that has a cypress in need of its 4yr inspection and batteries. I would have a rigger inspect everything before I purchased it, but I was wondering what people’s opinions were on buying a rig they could not test jump (due the cypress needing maintenance). Would you feel comfortable enough to buy it if the rig passed a rigger’s inspection? Thanks for your help. John
AggieDave 6 #2 June 21, 2005 Why don't you just jump it without the cypres? Seems like a very simple solution to me.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

If I were selling my rig, I wouldn't want you test jumping it, you might slide in on the pavement for all I know. Try it on, have a rigger inspect it. -A
flyangel2 2 #4 June 21, 2005 I always test jump some thing before I buy it. But I sign a contract saying I am responsible if something happens to the item. Why not put the canopy in a student rig, or borrow some one's rig. A rigger can't tell you how you are going to like the characteristics of the canopy. You'll only know after you jump it. You also won't know how the rig feels in freefall or under canopy till you jump it.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

I'd probably go for that. As an aside, if he's still looking at a spectre, i'm sure pd would send a demo. They all fly the same, likely, given pd has laser cutting. :) -A
johnnyoneeye 0 #6 June 21, 2005 Thanks for the comments everyone, I think if it came down to it I would at least feel comfortable with not having flown the main canopy, because I have been jumping a spectre 210 for a little bit now. As for the container, provided it fits reasonably well, should I be picky about that for my first rig? John

The important question here is how badly the lines on a USED Spectre are worn ... Have the outside A lines shrunk? Are the brake lines still close to factory specs? etc.. Most of these questions can be answered by a rigger with a trim chart and a tape measure, but you never really know for sure until you jump it.
