kturnau 0 #1 June 27, 2005 I have a Wings container with roughly 200 jumps on it. I used to have a Spectre 190 in it but recently downsized to a Silhouette 170. The container was built for a 170 according to my rigger. Ever since I downsized I noticed that my reserve flap comes loose exposing the pin when I freefly or do a lot of moves where the relative wind hits the hits the container directly (not belly to earth.) I spoke to the master rigger at our DZ about this and he couldn't really think of much he could do to fix the problem but said that he would give it a try. Has anyone expreienced this at all with their container or have any suggestions on how I can keep that flap from coming up? Thanks!FALLATIO #13 PELT HEAD #
kelel01 1 #2 June 27, 2005 Mine did it for about two weekends, and then it magically stopped. Take a pic of the rig and send it to Ankie at Wings. That's what she told me to do, but like I said, it stopped happening . . . so I never got around to it.
matthewcline 0 #3 June 28, 2005 Closing loops may need to be taken in a bit. The rig may have "stretched" a bit with the 190 and now with a 170 it needs to be adjusted. Just my opinion. freeasabird 0 #4 June 28, 2005 My 2001 had 400 jumps when I got it and the reserve flap opened about a dozen times in a row when sitflying. Then all of a sudden it stopped and never did it again for about 200 more jumps (with all kinds of freeflying involved and without changing my main or reserve canopy sizes). It has since done it just a couple more times lately...but pretty infrequently. My understanding is that the newer Wings models now have a stiffener in the flap to help prevent this problem. You should check with the manufacturer. I have dealt with them on unrelated topics and they have proven to be extremely helpful.-----
GravityGirl 0 #5 June 28, 2005 I third that notion. Check with the manufacturer. They have a great reputation of fixing these issues and making happy customers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
kturnau 0 #6 June 28, 2005 Thanks for the responses! I just got an email back from Ankie at Sunrise and they think that it is probably just the reserve pack job that is causing the problem. I got it repacked not too long ago so that would make sense. They suggested that I send a picture to them, which I did last night so I will probably hear back again pretty soon. Let's hope that's all it is!FALLATIO #13 PELT HEAD #
djm524 0 #7 June 28, 2005 I too have seen the problem being described here. I bought my Wings container used, but fairly new (it had ~50 jumps on it) and I noticed that the reserve flap tuck tab would become "untucked" sometimes after doing some freeflying. Some jumps later, I had the reserve repacked, and the problem seemed to go away. More recently, I had the reserve repacked again, and I noticed that the reserve tab started to come out again on some freefly jumps. Also, I noticed that the poptop wasn't sitting as cleanly as it could be against the rest of the reserve container- I could even see a bit of the PC fabric. So I took it back to my rigger and they opened and reseated/adjusted the reserve in the pack tray, as well as shortening the closing loop slightly. Although I haven't put that many jumps on it yet to realistically say the problem is gone, I have not seen it since.
