Abedy 0 #3 December 10, 2011 If you go for the full face option you might consider the following: - serious one: your vision might be restricted -> problem (not only) in an emergency - funny ones: - if you choose the black one, you'll be referred to as "Darth Vader" or, even worse, "Dark Helmet" - if you choose the white one, you'll be considered an Imperial Storm Trooper. Hellis 0 #4 December 10, 2011 It seems you have to remove the chincup to unbuckle the helmet. In my opinion a helmet is something that should be easy to remove, with or without a camera. PiLFy 3 #5 December 10, 2011 Bad idea. $300 = (considerable) shipping from UK? It's designed for skiing, not having 120mph winds directed underneath it. None of the illustrations show a proper chin strap. Jump helmets have neoprene gauntlets underneath to keep the wind from lifting the thing off your head in freefall. That thing looks like it'll catch a lot of wind. Want to get an Audible one day? I doubt one will fit in there comfortably. Then, there's the restricted vision. Do you think you might want to be able to find your handles in an emergency? Some open-face ski helmets are used successfully, but nothing like that. Ski goggles allow more air to get through. They also catch more air. Do you wear contacts? Those goggles could cause dry eyes, & excessive lens fogging. They look too hot for the summer, anyway. Skydiving isn't something where you want to reinvent the wheel. There are enough things that can reach out & hurt/kill you, already. Stick w/what's tried N true. But, if you must? Having jumped many different helmets, here is what it is actually like. I have jumped one a few times and NONE of the above are correct. Apart from one, the most important thing, lack of peripheral and down vision, especially on landing. That is the only reason I don't jump it anymore. It looks cool as fcuk and performs really well in freefall but sucks for vision. Don't buy one, go for a traditional full face instead.Journey not destination..... Look at skydiving-specific full-face helmets and you will notice the one thing they all have in common is chin covers that don't come up very high and how wide the side-to-side visibility is. Yes, you can, it sits in the padding and is easily heard. It doesn't catch air underneath nor any of the other "problems" but the vision issue is a major problem no matter the skill level.............Journey not destination..... djmarvin 2 #13 December 12, 2011 Ruroc sent me a Knight Moves (now known as the RG-1) a couple years ago to test for skydiving. I put several jumps on the helmet with and without the face mask and/or goggles. The face mask DID catch air and pull on my head whenever my chin was exposed to the relative wind (sit and belly). I could not take the helmet on or off with the face mask attached. I had no issues with vision with the helmet or face mask, but when I used their goggles I had very limited peripheral vision. My Pro-Track sat nicely in pocket by the ear, but there needs to be a cover or some way to keep it there. It stays in place while on my head, but could easily fall out taking the helmet on and off. The overall size of the helmet is rather large, but does offer more protection than the average skydiving helmet. I heard plenty of Dark Helmet jokes due to the LARGE outer shell of the helmet. The back of the helmet was no problem when jumping smaller rigs but when jumping larger rigs it limited how much I could raise my head. Overall I like the helmet and think it is great for what is designed for, snow sports. It would need some modifications to really make it in the world of skydiving.
