warpedskydiver 0 #108 October 29, 2009 BTW when I said consultant I was not trying to be evasive. Some of the things I consult on include; Firearms Military IT Surveying Engineering I was talking to a very good friend last night and we were speaking about what pay scales are now vs. what peoples ideas on how certain skills sets are overpaid. The problem with most of the public at large is they have no appreciation of how much education and hard work it took for you to learn all that you know, then be able to use it in order to help them and solve their problems. If it was so fucking easy they would do it themselves! My friend works very very hard, studies all the time, gets abused by customers who think they can file a suit or refuse the advice given them, then later complain they were not helped. This really pisses me off. I don't mind so much when someone does it to me, it is like water off a ducks back. But when they abuse my friend and do shit that really makes them not want to do their job anymore that is just too much. This is just not about this friend in particular, but about quite a few of them in general. It is amazing how brilliant many of my friends are, they truly are smarter and harder working than 95% of the population, and yet most all of them are not rich. Only two of them are actually rich, but they started out being fairly wealthy. One took over 40 years to build her wealth and business and then really started doing well, unfortunately her son drove her business and finances into the ground, along with Arthur Anderson. normiss 798 #110 October 29, 2009 I learned an expensive one years ago. Reviewing a large network for improvements and planning takes a lot of manual labor time. If you are not careful in your presentation to the client, you can simply had over a solution plan or path for free. They'd take your advice and implement the new network on their own! I started charging for those services after that instead of only the implementation portions.

We pay our designers good money, the software we use is quite expensive and constantly needs to be updated yet everyone wants a free design. If you get caught up in that trap some people will shop your design out to the lowest bidder.Nothing worse than losing a contract only to see your design on someones business a couple months later. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early! I've been working with the goverment forever and I can actually retire in 9 years because I started so young and joined the pension system and the other financial planning programs that were offered.
