craichead 0 #1 June 28, 2005 Okay, I know that there are plenty of threads about prescription goggles, and most people swear by SportRx.com. However, I've found that all of the models offered on SportRx.com will not support my very bad astigmatism. Then I ran across these "Phoenix" goggles at Birdz Eyewear: http://www.birdzeyewear.com/phoenix.html They have a frame insert that snaps into the goggles, and it is shaped more like my regular eyeglasses. They seem to be pretty affordable--they're offered on eBay for $35, and there's a listing in the DZ.com classifieds for about the same price (it's the same person selling them). sdctlc 0 #3 June 29, 2005 I picked up a pair from them on the listing in the classfieds a few weeks ago. They are nice goggles and I am waiting to get the Rx in them next week.. The people sellig them are very helpfull and seem very above board! Basically I highly suggest giving them a call. For the cost of them give them a shot! Not the most durable looking things...foam looks quite lacking...but the fit on my narrow face isnt too bad....the Rx inserts have quite a wide nose bridge gap...which concerns me a little....will have to see how they work out once i get the lens made. craichead and sdctlc...how are yours? have you tried them with the Rx lens yet? The optical mechanic should make certain the lens focal centre is in the right place for "your" eyes, regardless of what the goggles lens centre is.You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! craichead 0 #13 July 15, 2005 I got mine a couple weeks ago, and I had a similar reaction to yours (durability of foam, wide bridge on the frame insert). Another concern of mine was the way the polycarbonate lenses snap in. The black tab in the middle that you turn to secure them seems like it could pop out or break pretty easily, but I guess the tabs on the sides of the lenses help. Also, the arms are kind of lame, but I didn't really plan on using those, anyway--just the goggles strap. Oh well, we shall see what happens! I haven't taken them to my eye doctor but will probably do that next week. sdctlc 0 #15 July 15, 2005 I had the Rx in mine last weekend for the first time. and I liked it. My perscription is not that bad but it helps sharpen things up. I did have to adjust on landing a bit as my dpeth preception was different but not a big deal. When I had them made teh said with the "angle" that it might take a short time to get use to them and could give a skewed look on the edges, which I did not notice. They were saying this as a standard set of glasses basically is flat or parallel to the eyes but these are at a slight angle to the eyes to keep them under the glasses. I dont know if a harsher script would be worse but it is not an issue with mine.. I dont use the arm's and just use the strap. To be sure on the little tab I place a small patch of gaffers tape over it to keep it from turning... I dont even see it. The foam was a little concern for me as well but it held up nicely over the 15 or so jumps I put on them and I will have to see about the long term. 15 is not a huge sample set but its a start. Overall I like them and it does give me a little bit of sharpness that I have not had. Hell I have been jumping for years with out wearing them and I was sceptical as to the effect they would have but my first impression is very good.... chutem 0 #17 July 23, 2005 Mine got delivered yesterday. I went down to lenscrafters to have lenses made because I was to impatient to wait the week for them to get done somewhere cheaper. My perscription is +6.25 left and +6.5 right with a little astigmatism in the left. When the lenses were done I put them in the goggles and ,bummer, my vision straight ahead was terrible. The checked the lenses and they were fine. The head guy came over and checked things out, he told me the angle that the inserts put the lens in front of my eyes was to steep. DeNReN 0 #18 July 26, 2005 Okies....got my inserts made......my overall vision with them is not bad considering the angle of the inserts...my eyes are not all that bad though -2.50 each eye...but the wide bridge made it odd enough that I ran back from the plane to get my normal glasses and flexvision's before jumping sunday(I am stll getting used to my new canopy and did not want to risk landing with them)....I will wear them around the house this week to get used to them and hopefully jump them this coming sunday.
