Have you had the swine flu?

Recommended Posts

Just curious how many people on here have been affected. The swine flu just got to my small town and it has been amazing how fast it spreads!

And yes - I know it's technically called h1n1 now - but "swine flu" is just catchier.

Out of 36 patients yesterday I had 6 +ve Type A. I have not yet seen a Seasonal type A come back yet so presuming H1N1 until my confirmation testing comes back. Multiple other with suspected flu and due to the virulence of H1N1 in healthy populations a lot of initial treatment is leaning towards flu, despite not being in the traditional "high risk" populations.

I used to hate flu season to! A normal 12hr shift was an easy 15 and you wouldnt get any breaks. I am in Florida now and work in internal medicine where all our patients are 50 plus so we only see routine medical issues and no flu.

am on day 5 of it, and its the first day i havent had a fever (so far)
I hate getting sick...
and I really hated the damn swab the doctor shoved in my nose to take a sample... wtf? that is way more uncomfortable than taking a swab off the back of the throat and I forgot to ask her if their was a reason they didnt swab the throat so I dont know if she was as sadistic as she seemed to be.

So, have you had it or gotten vaccinated for it?

I just got my vaccination yesterday, but since I got the flu this summer I think I probably had it.

Nope. Still healthy. Have gotten seasonal flu vaccine. Not getting H1N1 vaccine. Pretty much wearing this respiratory isolation mask permanently around my clinic.

And DD, yesterday was the first of many 15 hours days I am afraid.

I had the "regular" flu sometime in the summer and last week had the "regular" flu AGAIN. Miserable and worse than the summer bout.

I also had the nose swab thingy, negative for H1N1. YAY, I guess. I can't imagine how much more horrible I could've felt if it was the H1N1 strain. The regular flu kicked my ass like never before. YUCK.
Always be kinder than you feel.

I had the impression there wasn't much testing going on over here after the first couple of months. Anybody who developed flu symptoms, and had been in a workplace or school where there were documented cases, was automatically assumed to be a probable swine flu case and just told to stay at home for five days.

So there's probably little way of knowing what percentage of real cases there have actually been.

Everything seems to have settled down now, and I don't see anybody taking special precautions any more. At the height of the initial scare I saw one person riding the underground wearing a mask. That was about it!

Where I live they are not testing.

Swine flu was/is pretty rampant around here, especially in the schools. My daughter brought home an illness and shared it (thanks). I had the right symptoms. I'm assuming it was swine flu. Seasonal flu has not been seen here yet.

Hi KM

Maybe and thats final:ph34r:

Had something. But Lived:)
Should everyone who comes down with the "crud" (infection)go to a hi density infection center and be exposed to all different kinds of infections so they can be tested to find out what kind of infection the origionaly had.[:/]

Viruses, what a clever manifestation of disease. I was so careful to follow all the protocol for prevention, but I forgot about the F*^ing keypad at the airport!!! which of course is the ultimate vector because of all the travelers. Haven't gotten whacked yet but I know I am going to slip up at some point.

Question- does the virus survive in free air for very long? How about on the surface of hands?
