ikon 0 #16 October 12, 2009 USC vs Notre Dame football This Saturday will be the 81st meeting between the two. From wiki: "Notre Dame and USC are among the most elite programs in college football, with each school winning 11 national championships and 7 Heisman Trophies. This football rivalry, which began in 1926, is considered one of the most important rivalries in college football, and is often called greatest intersectional rivalry in college football. Quite often, the winner of this series has gone on to win or play for the college football national title. Both schools combined have produced the most national titles (22), Heisman trophy winners (14), All-Americans, College Football Hall of Famers and future NFL Hall of Famers (21) than any other collegiate series." BillyVance 34 #25 October 12, 2009 It's hard to top the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn for pure passion and emotion between the fans. And the games are hard fought on the field, for the most part. Once in a while you get the odd blow-out. I'd put Ohio State vs Michigan on the same level as the Iron Bowl. Alabama vs Tennessee is a great interstate rivalry. They hate each other. I mean really hate each other. Used to be the victors got to smoke the victory cigars in the locker room until not too long ago. The oldest rivalry in the south is probably Auburn vs Georgia, with well over 100 games played.
