My son just got done gauging his ears to 00. Yes, I know you all have feelings about this since he is a teen. So whip on me all you want. He dealt with piercing part just fine. I have had many parts of my body pierced and the only one that hurt the worst was my Manroe. But it is quick and easy not like a tattoo.

If you are gauging, you will get tapers and stretch them slowly, letting them heal every time you stretch. My son did it at a reasonable pace and they are good. Don't get them cut or punched because you will have permanent holes that size. If they are stretched slowly and nicely, they have a chance to shrink back to a smaller size. (unless you gauge them to a huge gauge like and inch then they will not shrink back). I have a friend who has a shop for piercing and tattoos and this is what he told me before I let my son do his gauges. I was concerned about how to do it and what damage he can do. My son is at the size that can shrink back down to a half way decent size but if he goes bigger they won't.

If you have any other questions, PM me. I will try to answer them or get the answers for you. :)

at the smaller sizes you really dont need a taper. all stretches are under 1.5mm up untill a 2-0 stretch, that is when a taper could be helpful.

MOST peoples ears wi shrink back decently from a 0 or a 00 but bear in mind that not everyones will. i have a friend of mine who has not had any jewlery in his ears for over 6 months and they still havnt dropped but a single size. and i can assure you he did it all the right way.

im not AGAINST people stretching their ears, hell, im taking mine to 1/2''. im just saying THINK before you act. thats all. not saying your son hasnt, jsut saying that the majority DONT.

Yeah, my friend and I talked about people not shrinking back and he was saying that it can happen if they stretch to fast. Or use this ointment to break down the scare tissue. He got technical on me but in the lamen terms he was telling me; people who stetch to fast and don't let the stretch heal every time you go up a gauge it will cause more scare tissue and this will cause problems with a natural shrink down. Then the will have to be surgically shrunk. And absolutely make sure this is what you want for sure.

yeah i was just saying that even if you do everying right your body might just not be able to heal it.

and vitimin E oil, EMU oil, or any number of oils are helpful in doing that. since your son has taken his ears toa 00 i suggest that he get a bottle of either of the aforementioned, and to remove his jewlery and massage his lobes for 3 or 4 minutes a day. just for good measure.

5) Wufffo you put holes in your head?

5--feels good.

You gotta be shittin' me. Sounds like masochism to me.:S

I know styles come and go, and I'm way old school, and there are a lot of piercings I like. I just think the long term gauges and permanent holes and dangling loose earlobes are not a good idea.[:/]

And one more point:
Styles change;
What is cool today will be hopelessly out of style tomorrow.
You can change your hair style and clothes;
Tats and holes are much more difficult.

lol, he massages his lobes all the time. He likes playing with them. But I have Vitamin E oil and I will have him use it too when he is rubbing his lobes down. Ok that sounded bad, lmao. Thanks for the advice:)

It sounds like the kind of people you are referring to are the ones mutumbu was talking about. The ones that think it will be cool and don't really think long term. A lot of people who get body mods do it to stand out. So if all of a sudden it went out of style my guess is a lot of the more serious people wouldn't care and might even be happy.

those are the EXACT same people who im talking about. they do it because its a way to rebel against their parents and because their friends are doing it. ive always wondered how many people would actually do it if it was as widely accepted as women piercing their ears. personally someday i hope that that becomes the case, but it wont happen in my lifetime i dont think.

My friend got his punched out with a circular scalpel. Basically a cookie cutter at a 0 gauge size. I was going to get it done right after him, until I saw it being performed. :o I would NOT recommend it.

You could pierce and stretch, which is also not recommended. I think most piercers should be willing to start you out with an 8 gauge.

I believe what you are thinking of is called a dermal punch. They are designed to be used for biopsies. I considered that but then figured if I ever wanted to take the jewelery out and let it heal back up that wouldn't be an option. I think I'll start at 8 or maybe 6 if it's possible and stretch my way up to a 1/4" or 1/2".

I didn't read all of it but...

Like someone else said anything much past 0 ga is never going to completely close, and its person dependent.

And ears don't hurt, its the softest material ever.

As far as how big you can go, most won't ever go over an 8 ga needle. Although if you want to go bigger initially there are people who will scalpel them to the size you want..

I've done 3 back suspensions, all with 8 ga hooks, and back skin is 11billiontimes tougher than earlobes and it was a quick sharp sting and it was done, it will be real easy with lobes.

And as far as pain, just man up. I had a 6mm dermal punch stretched to 0 ga immediately in my upper cartilage, that was fairly painful.

I think the worst was reverse PAs stretched from 10 to 8. That shit hurt.

But good luck with your lobes, take it slow, slow is better than to fast, I've seen blow out from too fast, its ugly.

*edit*

forgot to say, I've been pierced by either a 4 or 2 ga needle followed by progressive tappers to either 00ga or 000ga, i think it was 00ga. The piercing was a little painful and the tapers just felt like a real bad snake bit (like the ones you use to give classmates in grade school)

bst advice you will ever get is to GO SLOW and listen to your body. .

anyway, who did you suspend with? and where at? im prolly gonna use either 2 6ga hooks or the traditional 4pt with 8ga. not sure yet, but totally looking forward to it.

and Nightengale, be warned i have been around this world for a long time, and just because they are a member of the APP dosent mean they can pierce woth a shit. just means that they can pass a class. which dont get me wrong is a good thing. just a heads up there.

pick out a shop based off of word of mouth and reputation. go in and look at their albums, any good shop will have the,. and if you like what you see go there. and above all make sure EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING is opened from sterile packages in front of you. ive walked out of places before because they didnt meet my standards. if something seems out of whack then feel free to say no thanks and leave.

Ummm I can't remember who I did it with anymore.

First one was at a tattoo convention in IL near chicago, stayed up for about 15 min and I guess I turned green so they brought me down. I was about to pass out at that point though.

2nd one was in Las Vegas by a person that I met, through BME, was up for all of about 30 seconds before I went "fish" as they called it. In my defense I was freezing and it was about 35 degrees that night in the desert.

3rd one was a private suspension thorugh a friend. I was the first to go up cause apparently I was the only one that had done one besides the host, lol. That one went real well, he had a blast heater so I could stay warm, it was in a garage in MN in Nov... I was up for little over an hour before I decided to come down because it looked like other people were getting bored with me swinging around so I figured I'd let them have a chance.

All were 4 point with 8 ga needles across the back

I emailed a piercer at my shop last night around the same time I posted this. He got back to me today saying a 0 is the biggest they go. I haven't used this guy before though.

I got a labret quite a while ago (has since been removed) he moved out to Chicago so it's like an hour drive but I really liked him so I might make the trip so I know I am getting a safe, clean, quality piercing. Emailing him now.

Oh yeah another question for you. Have you ever been pierced by a large needle and how much does it hurt? I know you can't really compare a tattoo to a piercing (I used to have a labret) but if you had to say which would you say hurt more: a large gauge piercing or getting tattooed on say the collar bone (mine is ribs but i hear they are similar).

I got a 10 gauge in my nipples. It hurt but not enough to bring tears to my eyes. It hurt more than a tattoo but the pain lasts much less in terms of time. Piercing my tongue hurt less than nipples but I had to remove it. good luck

My tongue was the only one that did not hurt at all. And I mean not one bit. All the others varied in the quick pain.

How big is a 0? Isn't pretty close to 1/4"? I would think that you would be removing some flesh going that big.

According to the charts a 0 is larger than 1/4". I'd never start that big though. I just emailed another piercer tonight, the one that did my labret, whom I trust and respect. He said he doesn't recommend going larger than an 8. Looks like I was right on with what I was planning. I think I'll make the extra bit of drive to go into Chicago so I can use my old piercer.

Ya man,If you have a piercer you know and trust its totally worth the time to go see them.

I 've had the same girl for about 5 years, even tho I dont really plan on doing anymore piercings she is the only one I would go to.

Dude you can get any piercing at any gauge...you just gotta know the right person....

Most flesh hook suspension is at a 6, and if you know the right people then you can get them to do anything you want....because in the end if you got the money they will do it.

Why not try scarification? hehehehe....

I said the APP was a place to start, not finish. ;)

most people see it as an endpoint. thats the rpoblem, lol.

im planning to suspend here soon, sonn as i can get the money for it all. damn expensive hobbies. . . :(

and yeah my tongue didnt hurt at all to have pierced, the others all stung a bit but nothing unbearable.
stretching it although has been a different story, some of that downright sucked.

if you ahve a guy or girl you like then by all means go to them. i know theres only 2 people down in florida that ill let pierce me, and my main guy trained the other one, lol. either way good luck, and post pics ;)

My tats were more annoying than the 14G nipple rings or the 4 x 12G earrings. The piercings actually felt kinda cool; there was as sort of rush through my whole body when I got them.
