Do you eat dinner in front of the tv?

Recommended Posts

This question is geared mostly to when you're eating dinner with your family members. Do you keep the tv on? Is it on it the background while you're at the table or do you sit at the couch and eat on trays? What do you usually end up watching?

My husband has tinnitus so he likes having background noise to drown the ringing. We typically have the TV in the dining area on... and usually watch it. But, we don't have cable, so if there isn't anything really on basic programming, then we either let it just babble in the background or turn to HULU

Only sometimes. Since my girl(s) have been old enough to sit up and eat on their own, we have made it a point to eat together as a family at the dining table, no TV.

I don't want my kids to think TV is their family.

For us, at dinner time...tv's off....everyone at the dinner table, so I can interrogate:o...oops I mean, check with my kids about their day/school/homework.

We discuss things that happened throughout our day. After dinner, they help me clean up...then they can resume their activities. :)

We always eat at the table and have the catch up time about the day and so on. Sometimes the tv is on. Having an 8yr old, he is a messy eater and there is no way he is eating anywhere but the table.. I swear he eats non stop cause only a 1/3 of the food ever maks it in his mouth. The rest is on the floor by his chair.:S

That is why my mom always used a shower curtain on the floor and set my high chair in the middle of it. :D

The wife and I eat dinner while watching the evening news. It can take us up to an hour or an hour and a half to actually eat what's on our plate.

In front of the TV, next to the computer. Every night that I don't go out to eat.

What family? [:/]

Single Military... but I stopped eating out as much a couple years ago, (but its still 5-10 meals a week) Mostly as a way of being healthier and spending more money on skydiving.
Plus since moving to the south all my friends live at least 30 minutes away, so I only see them on the weekends.

Yes, and breakfast.

It is virtually the only time we watch. :D

It is always something DVRd.

We have a perfectly beautiful dining room with great, natural light, views, etc. that makes for a great craft & game table. :D

When I am doing anything--unloading groceries, doing crafts, etc.--I keep it on the music channel--mostly classical (I admit to loving classical music).

When I eat breakfast, or we eat dinner, we eat sitting on the floor. :$ I don't know why; we have plenty of places to sit. I just always have. I have also always eaten a bagel for breakfast (these days a whole wheat bagel with all natural peanut-butter). I am a creature of habit. No matter where I go, no matter what I do, my breakfast bagel and my dinner-on-the-floor feels like home. :S:)

No kids and no place to sit and eat in the kitchen. Yes, normally I eat dinner in front of the tv or computer unless its a special meal- then we'll use the dining room, turn the TV off and maybe play some music in the background. I cook most of the "big" meals at home- holidays, entertaining, etc...... If I put that much effort into dinner, people are going to sit together and enjoy it!

When I was a kid we always ate dinner at the kitchen table as a family, no tv, and we had to ask to be excused when we were done. The dining room was for holidays.

T? V? Como es?

In front of the computer, yep.

At Easter my dad wanted to watch TV (golf) during Easter dinner. Tha of course led to a fight between us. :S:(

Lets see...

Leave work at 6, pick up daughter at volleyball practice, get home at 7:15 to 7:30. Feed 20 goats, herd daughter toward doing homework, sort mail, check messages, check in with wife, play with dogs, see if cats are around.

Fix whatever is on list for most essential project, help wife start dinner, help more if she needs it.

It's 8:30 or so and we might sit down for dinner, so yeah, I've got the TV on, because after dinner its dishes homwork and chores. By 10:00, our place is a graveyard. Gotta be up by 6 to feed goats again.

We used to sit down at the table to eat, but our days are just too long. Besides, we all talk over the TV. the tv is where we gather, not why we gather.
