Is it now an etiquette imperative to wish someone a Happy Birthday on more than one internet forum?

Recommended Posts

Just something I've been wondering over the past few weeks, inspired by having so many friends and acquaintances now spread across more than one frivolous social network.

In fact it's one of many new etiquette questions I find arising entirely in the wake of MyTwitterFace technology. EG:

-How long do you wait for a response to a "Wall Post" before you decide the person's ignoring you?
-Is it better to grudgingly accept a "Friend Request" from someone you've always secretly found irritating, coarsely decline it, or ignore it forever and hope they die without noticing?
-How do you blow off the person in one chat window for the person in another without feeling like a dick?

These are -apparently- the sorts of thing that cross my mind after waking up on the sofa next to an empty bottle of pinot noir.

Original ???: if I post HB to someone it's usually only on one site... unless of course I want to bug the person.

I have no expectation for anyone to respond... so I don't sit n wait....

I usually just ignore, unless it's someone who is intentionally harassing me, then I decline.

Both my myspace / & facebook accounts were started for family reasons, and are used alot to keep in touch with my family. It's been a great networking tool, and I've reconnected with some awesome people, I really don't have many reasons to decline anyone.

Never had to do that... but I have ended IM's easily if I have other things to take care of.

If people are getting their panties in a bunch over silly things like not getting a reply back, or ending an IM conversation SIUCC!

I generally Ignore twice and then after the Third request, I give in. Hey, If it means that much to then to see my Family and old Junior High Friends catching up after all those years... More power to them.:P

Seriously.. I am still pretty picky about who I will add to my Facebook. Especially when it comes to my Skydiver Friends. I use Facebook for Long Lost Friends and Family, DZ.com is for keeping up with the Skydiving Community. The last thing I need is my Great Aunt or My Daughter seeing is me Tagged in Pics from a Boogie standing next to a guy in a thong while I chug a Bottle of Patron. People have suggested I create two profiles but that is way too much work and hassle.

So basically some people get added, Some don't.
(Unless they play Mafia wars and want to join my mafia, Then that is a whole different story!!:P)

Well that explains it. :P Obviously you forgot our time together in Mrs. Wilkinson's 3rd grade class. :D

I dunno...I used to be so careful about trying to say 'Happy Birthday' to anyone I knew was having one on at least one forum, but then I had to start working.

BTW...nobody wished me a hippo birdie on Monday...>sniff >sniff<.>

'course at this age, I'm starting to want to forget that I'm getting another year older anyhoo. :P
