Placing a value on a rig I want to sell.

Recommended Posts

Who can help me figure out what is a fair price to ask for my rig? Should I post the info here or PM someone? My Rigger ??

If this does not belong here, please have a greenie move it ..

I guess this post found the right home :)

Vector Container
DOM Oct 99
Type V351

Main Canopy
190 Sihlouette - 250 jumps max

Reserve Canopy
PD176R - no jumps that I know of.
White.

Cypres had it's 8 year inspection about 6 months ago so it's good for about 3.5 years.

The rig is in a team room in Eloy right now so I don't have DOM etc.. on the canopies right now.

Look in the classified ads to see what similar rigs are being priced at. Ignore the ones from Baddog (seriously - Cruislites in Racers with round reserves are not worth $2600). Some riggers will have a pretty good idea what gear is worth, others will not. For better or worse, on-line sales have driven the price of used gear way down...

"Price of Container when it was New" minus $1 per jump it has on it.

... and same thing for the main...

"Price of Container when it was New" minus $1 per jump it has on it.

... are rules of thumb... again... JUST RULES OF THUMB, but they at least give you a starting point.

Cypres... a little over 8 years old... about 4 years left on it... Cypres is good for 12 years total, so figure its got a little less then 30% of its life left... so what's 30% of the cost of a new Cypres?? Go from there...

Take the rig to a couple of riggers too and ask them.

Hope that helps some...

:)

My best educated guess is around $2,500.00. Vector II, right?

That chart shows the Cypress 2 maintenance cost being $490. [...] Airtec claims that it is only $160.

Dealing with the Cypres valuation issue only:

The Aussies have their own currency, funnily enough.
I can't vouch for the Aus $490 claim, but to the US $160 one has to add a US $80 battery pack and shipping both ways.

Good point about the costs in Australia being different.

The Cypress 2 does not need the $80 battery pack, it is included in the 4-year and 8-year service.

If it's a Vector 3, then bring it up to $3,000.00.

That is what my market in Nor Cal dictates. You'll find that prices and tolerances will varry from region to region. It's all about supply and demand ya know? So all these fancy formulas sorta go out the window.

6 years is not an old rig. It's a Vector 3 which is modern enough to have all of the safety concerns addressed for freeflying. A new one would be close to $2k.

Have you looked around for a used cypres lately? The ones with an 8 year done are selling for around $500.00. Fact.

A new PD reserve is about a grand. Used ones generally go for around $700.00

The Silouette may be valued around $800.00.

So yes. Around $3,000.00. Depending on the condition of the rig. Give or take.

Not to argue with you... but that's insane! I paid $4500 for a complete new rig, granted not quite about 2 years ago, but still... if a 6 year old rig with an 8 year old Cypres is going for 3K, might as well throw another 1500 at that and get a new one... couse I think 2K for JUST a new container is NUTS too. As for getting $500 for an 8 year old Cypres... well, if someone wants to pay that for an 8 year old Cypres, okay, but I wouldn't.

I really don't know much, but I do know a new Jav is over $1700 as is a new Vector, a new PD canopy is over $1100, a new reserve is $1000 & a new cypress is $1200. That's $5k & not excessivly overy priced items (easily mains & containers can cost way more).

As Bonnie said, it depends a lot on the market. Here in mine (Chicago area) $3k is a good deal for a rig in good shape and amazingly with freefly safty upgrades.

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

The good news is that skydiving gear doesn't depreciate too much unless there is a major safety change. Like tuck flaps, etc.

To some people $1,500 more is impossible.

As for the cypres. It sucks that is a supply and demand game big time. I get pissed reading the classifieds. But a new Cypres2 is around $1,300.00. And that is just out of reach for a lot of people. So $500 for 4 more years is a realistic alternative.

There are loads of used gear opportunities for well under $3k. But one or more components will likely be compromised.

His set up is both modern and high quality gear.

And yes. You can still get all new gear for $4,500. Not the components you jump. Both PD and Javelin have had price increases since your purchase. Don't know if you have a cypres one or two....

True enough... I bought my new Jav, Sabre2 & PD Reserve back before they all hiked their prices... and I went though Ralph who seems to have good prices. I've got Cypres 1s in both my rigs... and seeing as how I'm a Rigger... my gear is always in date...
:)

Anyway, the way the price of gear is going, its just making it that much harder for folk to get into the sport. :(
