Books into Films .... which worked for you?

Recommended Posts

No Fight Club fans? The movie is unique in that it is partially in the first person, which gives you a great perspective and makes the movie what it is. I didn't like the movie the first time I saw it, it took a few viewings to really appreciate it. Read the book recently, and it is great. They differ somewhat, and when you read/watch both it fills in allot.
The movie was actually a dying man's last wish, and when you read the book you see how much of an effort it took to form the movie. Lots of times when I get sick of life and the world we live in, I'll watch the movie and it hits the reset button on me, and I am born again.

Lord of the Rings

Yep.

And an oldie, The Dam Busters (if you've seen it, you know where George Lucas got some of his ideas for the Death Star sequence in Star Wars).

Another oldie: Where Eagles Dare, very good adaptation.

Edited to add: A Town Like Alice (aka "Rape of Malaya" in the USA), another oldie based on the book by Nevile Shute.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

There's a random connection there. Didn't I read a while back that Peter Jackson was planning to remake The Dambusters? Whatever happened to that project?

If he could produce a movie with that quality of script and cast again, but updated with convincing special effects - what a great film that could be.
