shropshire 0 #1 August 22, 2009 Sweet little Ellie, the eldest of our 2 dogs and mom to Millie, passed away in the early hours of this morning. Strange ... Millie woke the Mrs up by scratching the kitchen door (where they sleep) so she muist have reliased something was not right. Jane took her to the vet straight away but they couldn't do anything for her and said that she'd had a massive stroke. She's a very old girl and had slowed up alot in recent months but was not in pain and still her very cheerful loving self. I can still remember vividly, the sight of these two scruffy, bedraggled dogs in the shelter and fell in love with them straight away and could not believe how anyone could be so heartless to let the get like that or put them up for adoption at all - BASTARDS. The shelter staff said that we didn't need to have both but couldn't split them up - that would have been cruel. When we got ther home, we bathed and trimmed them and they looked like different dogs - Springer Collie cross breeds - so well behaved and easy to train or did they train us? We've all had a wonderful time together, masny long walks, swims and hugs. We're going to miss her so much. This is not the 1st dog that we've lost but it hits me hard every time The horrid part is that I'm away from home (I left yesterday evening... just a few hours before she died) and was I was on a ferry over to France at the time that jane called me and am now in Switzerland for a job so, we're apart - not the best timeing (.)Y(.) shropshire 0 #10 August 22, 2009 Thanks everyone. We always knew that this was on the cards one day soon, but the time could have been better (sort of). We're just wondering about the younger dog now and how she'll adapt.. We know that they don;t think like us, but she is used to having company when we're at work.. so it could be a bit testing for a while. Thanks again gang - y'all are ace (.)Y(.) masterrig 1 #18 August 23, 2009 I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how you must feel. I lost a really good horse a couple years ago and we have a little spaniel mix dog who doesn't have long. We've had her over 15-yrs. Animals can really become a part of a person and family. It's really rough to lose them. Chuck
