DonTheGeek 0 #1 August 24, 2009 Yesterday I dropped my gear bag on a table under the pavilion at Raeford, threw my phone, wallet, and keys inside, and went for a jump. I got back and dropped my rig to get packed and then wandered back out to the pavilion to get some things out of my bag. It was gone. Crap. It turns out some visiting jumpers had accidentally grabbed the bag as it was sitting next to their gear. It happens. A bunch of folks at the DZ swung into action to help me track it down. We tracked down one of their buddies who got in touch with them and found it (thanks Luke!). Unfortunately, they were already back to West Point Skydiving. Good news for me, though, a couple of our folks were up there with the Otter and retrieved my bag. It took a plane ride back where it was then handed off to one of my team mates (the Kevin in "Where's Kevin") who got it back to me today intact along with a shiny new Skydive West Point t-shirt. No one had to go out of their way to help me but they did. And that's why skydivers rock!
guppie01 0 #2 August 24, 2009 Very cool glad all your stuff is safe n sound! I had a similar situation. I loaned my rig to a fellow jumper, and it was accidentally left out on the patio after hours. Another jumper recognized my rig and put it in his team room for safe keeping until the next time I was at the DZ. Good people! g "Let's do something romantic this Saturday... how bout we bust out the restraints?" Raddest Ho this side of Jersey #1 - MISS YOU OMG, is she okay? JohnMitchell 16 #3 August 24, 2009 Dang. Another good reason to have your name embroidered on your gear bag. Glad it all worked out.
cocheese 0 #4 August 25, 2009 Are ya saying we all need to send our gear bags to Vskydiver? She does embroidery right? If not, my post makes no sense.I had my gear bag taken by a skydiver who thought it was his friend's stuff as they were packin up to leave.. It was hanging on the gear rack. Not like i don't care of my toys.

In fact, all my stuff has my name on it. With our family having 4 kids and 2 skydivers, we used to have so much stuff that I almost always left something out there. The DZO used to tease me about it, but I was proud to have never forgotten to take all the kids with us when we left. Funny this all came up, but today she and Roo were working on a pattern for a new gearbag she wants to market. Of course, it will have your name embroidered on it to prevent this kind of thing. Seriously? I have an Infinity rig made in 1998 with my name "Billy" on one mudflap and "Alabama Gang" on the other. Does she remember that? I know it's a stretch, but...
