wmw999 2,515 #1 August 24, 2009 Where better to ask for advice than dz.com Going to Kauai, the Big Island, and Maui; 12 days total. We like day hikes, and much prefer to stay in B&B's over resorts. In fact, we'll take cheap chain motels over resorts most of the time... Ideas? Where would be the best town to stay on each island for max exposure to the coolest stuff, what are the cool things to do that no one ever heard of, etc. No need for a luau, and no, we're not taking our skydiving gear. gravitysurfer 0 #2 August 24, 2009 When on the Big Island you may try calling these folks. It's a blast! I heard, however , that after the earthquake in 2006 that they may have portions of it closed so definitely call first. It's quite a drive from Kona or Hilo. aloha. warpedskydiver 0 #7 August 24, 2009 You have to have the breakfast buffet at the Mauna Lani in Kona. mmmmmmmOther that that check out the volcanoes, go snorkling, deep sea fishing, ride the lava tubes, go to Parker Ranch, see all there is to see. The Big Island could take a year to really check it out.
jamiem 1 #8 August 24, 2009 In Kauai stay on the north shore...some good places in Hanalei. The NaPali coast is on the North Shore and you have to hike at least to the beach! It is BEAUTIFUL! Also, check out that zodiac raft tours to see the NaPali coast fully it is something you will never forget. :)
