Haunted houses?

Recommended Posts

So we're currently shopping for a house, and one stuck out as almost perfectly fitting the bill. In trying to find out why the owner was selling, I found out that the owner's husband had died, at age 52. We walked through it last night and liked what we saw, but it felt a little odd to me. Today, the realtor confirmed that the deceased had in fact died in the house last month, and by his own hand.

I don't believe in ghosts, and probably wouldn't have minded if it had been a "natural" death, but for some reason the prospect of living in a house where a guy killed himself last month gives me the heebie-jeebies. Would it bother you?

Another of the houses we were tentatively interested in got nixed when we found out (before walking through) that the 38-yr old single-mom owner had died in it last month. It seems to me that it would be tough to get a house on the market so quickly after a sudden and unexpected death, especially in the case of the widow, but also by an estate. Those people must have had their ducks in a much straighter row than I have mine.

Not really in most states. If her name was on the mortgage then all she needs is a death certificate and it should be good to go.

Btw I would have a problem living in either of those houses;) But im just a little bitch:D

I'm with you... if it were an older person who died of natural causes it would creep me out less than the circumstances you described.

My one and only home that I've owned was brand-new, so unless the ghosts of the old house that was torn down to put it up were lurking around, I was in the clear. Six years there and I never met any of them. :D

No, I don't think so.

Tonight we're headed back to one of the houses we walked through last night, to ensure it really is worth the offer I'm thinking of submitting. It's new construction on previously undeveloped land. Since they didn't discover any bones while digging out for the foundation, I don't think there's any chance of ghosties. :D

More house, less money! It's just a little bloodstain, and if the widow didn't want to lose 20% of the value, she'd have been nicer to her husband! B|:D

But seriously, those are the only two I mentioned, because they were only ones relevant to the topic. :P:D

No self respecting ghost would haunt a house with a doofus that wears white socks with Tevas.
Get serious.

Au contraire mon freir, the only reason ghosts haunt people who don't wear socks with their Tevas is because they lost their sense of smell upon death. :P:D

Depends on the state, and it depends on how they held title to the property but it has very little to do with the last mortgage of record. A surviving spouse who had held title jointly with the deceased person normally wouldn't have any issues with a quick sale but that isn't always the case. If the deed putting them into title wasn't worded in a specific way, it can get tricky.

There is a house maybe a mile from mine that an entire family was slaughter in back in 2001 I believe. A family bought it and lives there now. I would be interested to find out if they have had any "experiences".

A friend of mine owns a house that was passed down to him. It was originally the first Sioux City hospital and insane asylum. Crazy house, 3 floors, a basement that use to be the kitchen and a sub basement that use to be the morgue. Been there many times and have never seen or heard a thing out of the ordinary. I think it's 20 some bedrooms with 2 baths and it's just him. Haha.

Spirits/ghosts are nothing to be afraid of. If you believe, they know you believe. They let you know they are there in various ways. Mostly postive, sometimes looking for help.

I have several great experiences with places I've lived where someone has died. Natural passing and murder. Guess they trust me.

Yep, I'm a believer. :)

This really sucks ... I thought this thread was going to be about having sex in haunted houses ... Like the kind you go to on Halloween.

I just bought a house and the old owner died in it also. He was an alcoholic but died of natural causes. One of the neighbors actually asked me if I'd like to see where they found the body. Needless to say I didn't.

I think a suicide or murder might be a little harder to swallow though, depends how supersitious you are.
