SublimeBreeze 0 #1 July 28, 2009 If I wanted to quit my day job, move to a DZ and live the dream, which DZ would you say is the best? Suppose I'm in this situation. I've got 15k usd saved up. I realize this probably wont get me very far but want to jump full time however I can. I've got 64 jumps, around 4 hours tunnel time (relatively new). I want to work / live / breath skydiving, I want to progress fast, get to 300 jumps or so and start jumping camera, then at 800-1000 Tandems. If a jump costs and average of 16USD I can potentially put 5k on the books and get 316 jumps, i'll have another 11k for gear. Which dropzone would you suggest I go to, and what advice would you give me. I question you might ask is: Why are you so rushed? i'm not actually rushed, to make this fun, let's just not ask that question =P Sean Sean In Thailand
quade 4 #2 July 28, 2009 QuoteIf a jump costs and average of 16USD It doesn't. Figure $20 to $25 depending on the drop zone. I really have to appreciate your enthusiasm for the sport, but I have to tell you that it's a horrible plan. Even if you lived in a tent on the DZ and ate garbage out of the trash bins, it's still going to cost you money to live and you're absolutely not getting a camera flying job as soon as you start flying camera. You're certainly not going to get a job flying tandems without training that's also going to cost you money. I'm not saying you can't do it. But I am saying you need to do a LOT more research before you "cut away."quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
SublimeBreeze 0 #3 July 28, 2009 Quote It doesn't. Figure $20 to $25 depending on the drop zone. Hmm Yeah, hmm that certainly changes the figures. Quote I really have to appreciate your enthusiasm for the sport, but I have to tell you that it's a horrible plan. Even if you lived in a tent on the DZ and ate garbage out of the trash bins, This would hopefully be supplemented by packing but your probably right, it is a horrible plan, but for arguments sake lets say somebody did it. Quote it's still going to cost you money to live and you're absolutely not getting a camera flying job as soon as you start flying camera. You're certainly not going to get a job flying tandems without training that's also going to cost you money. So what should I figure training for jumping camera cost? Quote I'm not saying you can't do it. But I am saying you need to do a LOT more research before you "cut away." Well, here is definitely a place to start. Thanks for you input I'm wondering if anybody has actually tried this, failed, succeeded, was absolutely miserable? Sean Sean In Thailand
iambeav2 0 #4 July 28, 2009 Quote I'm wondering if anybody has actually tried this, failed, succeeded, was absolutely miserable? Yes...Yes...and yes. Depends on the stature of the DZ, how busy, how well you pack...lots of things. Make absolutely sure you can pack fast and good, and find a team to follow...pack for a while...get to know 'em...and maybe they'll take you under their wing via the air and show you some tricks for flying...and you MIGHT make some money to satisfy your needs...ya bum!G/l if you try it!...it's not the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone...it's the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until someone appreciates it for you! headoverheels 333 #5 July 29, 2009 Since you are not that far away, come down to Lodi for a week and see how it goes. Jumps are $15 each, or $13 each in blocks of 50. The tunnel is ~90 minutes away. Fastest progress is had by spending dollars on coaching.
