marcandalysse 0 #1 July 27, 2009 No one has started a thread about BRUNO? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAGpmNb2xfQ It would be difficult to top Borat, since it was such an innovative concept. Both movies have egotistical, opinionated foreigners traveling across America interacting with unwary and/or bigoted folks. Bruno had to be more shocking than Borat, and it is. Most people will be disgusted and not think it is a funny movie. Others will laugh their asses off, with a "can't believe he is doing that" even as they squirm and try to look away..... Rather than two thumbs up (or to stay in the spirit of Bruno ---two cocks up), my recomendation is..... If you like the "BillyVance's sick and twisted and/or NSFW photo attachment thread" then you will LOVE BRUNO!! in today's news! Sacha Baron Cohen threatened by Palestinian terrorists over Bruno film The Martyrs Brigades, a group of West Bank Palestinian insurgents, said it was "very upset" that it appeared in the film starring Baron Cohen's flamboyant Austrian homosexual character and would "respond in a suitable way", according to a statement published on the Right-wing website called World Net Daily. In the film, Bruno, a television journalist interviews Ayman Abu Aita, who is claimed in the movie to be the leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades Mr Baron Cohen's character implores Mr Abu Aita to capture him, saying, "I want to be famous. I want the best guys in the business to kidnap me. Al-Qaeda is so 2001." Mr Abu Aita and his associates were angry by his portrayal according to the statement published by the Jerusalem bureau of the World Net Daily. "We reserve the right to respond in the way we find suitable against this man. The movie was part of a conspiracy against the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades," the statement read. "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
quade 4 #2 July 27, 2009 The problem I had with Bruno is that while, like Borat, it actually did have a point, in Bruno that point gets lost in the noise. I also was horribly disappointed in one aspect; he wussed out. That's right. I said it. He wussed out. Of sure there all all the "gay" jokes you could ever hope to see and tons of blasts at various was people try to become famous, but . . . Spoilier ahead! Do not continue if you care about such things! . . . So there is Bruno, he has tossed out the only person in the world that seems to have supported him and he's roaming the streets of LA like a homeless man. He stops in front of an electronics store. On the screens, images of Tom Cruise and John Tavolta. Then it hits him, to be famous he has to be . . . straight? NO! Fuck! Why not blast Scientology? Are you telling me it's funnier to be joke about a gay guy acting straight than piss on Hollywood's connection to Scientology and other nutball religions? No fuckin' way! At no time in the movie does he even come close to that kind of Hollywood scrutiny. Pity.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

So this would imply that members of this “devoutly religious” group actually watched the movie. They are going to go to hell and fry in a vat of pig fat for viewing this decadent western movie!!!! happythoughts 0 #4 July 27, 2009 I have seen it and I'd have to say that the major target of the movie was the concept of "Celebrity" and what people in the US are willing to do to get it. I thought the movie was all about celebrity-bashing and the idiocy that people go through. The funniest thing is that if a conservative film maker made the same points with a different approach, Hollywood would be screaming. (A lot of the gay jokes were just overdone and not really that funny. However, in the context of the whole movie they were kind of necessary.) What are people willing to do to make their children stars? "Are you ok with your child operating heavy machinery?" "You child needs to lose about 10 lbs. Can they do it in 1 week? Are they willing to get lipo done?" "Can we put them on a cross?" "Dressed as a nazi pushing a wheelbarrow full of Jews?" The answers were amazing. Adoption from other countries for media coverage? He trades a child for a designer phone. He tries to make a sex tape to become famous. He tries to do a tv show by replacing talent with over the top outrageous behavior. He appears on a Jerry Springer-type tv show. Trying to get media coverage by promoting a "cause". Just about everything offensive that was done in the movie, was done by the Jackson parents or Madonna. Seeing Jennifer Lopez sitting on a migrant worker because the furniture hadn't arrived was priceless. Movies always make caricatures of a type. Bruno was flamboyantly gay beyond measure. . I'm surprised that he lived through some of the stuff if it was not staged.
CMiller 1 #5 July 27, 2009 Quote NO! Fuck! Why not blast Scientology? . I live and work in Hollywood. I am not exaggerating when I say that if he were to do that, then his career would be over in Hollywood. You have no idea how many influential people are Scientologists in the movie business, and how small the town really is. Are you familiar with what Scientology does to its critics? Not only would his career be over, but his reputation as well.

happythoughts 0 #8 July 28, 2009 Quote That was Paula Abdul, who is way hotter than Jennfer Lopez Nah. Their flashes are the only thing hot about either of them. Wasn't PA the choreographer for Singing in The Rain ? I keep expecting some end-of-career-reviving-nudity out of them, accompanied by a slow yawning lack of interest. warpedskydiver 0 #12 July 28, 2009 It makes you wonder why in the hell anyone would ver join such a cult. If they came after a person would they not be reasonable to use deadly force to protect themselves? If the scientologists intend to have others committed, arrested on trumped up charges, drive them to suicide, murder, assault etc. would deadly force not be reasonable? quade 4 #14 July 28, 2009 QuoteThe funniest thing is that if a conservative film maker made the same points with a different approach, Hollywood would be screaming. I pretty sure that's not the case. While Hollywood does skew toward the left, there is still a hefty presence on the right. My guess is the difference isn't even as wide as the one now in Congress. The percentage may be slightly higher among the "stars", but not the rank and file and certainly not the studio suits.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
virgigirlie 0 #15 July 28, 2009 QuoteQuoteNot only do they have a published "enemies of Scientology list, but they'll go far beyond their list. Fair Game. The wiki page cites quite a few examples (I didn't read them all) where victims of Fair Game sued the Church of Scientology and won. Seriously, South Park took them on and all that happened was that Isaac Hayes quit. Then they turned Chef into the Darth Vader of a child molesting club. Maybe S.B.C. et al did write some stuff about Scientology and it got cut, but i find it more likely that it was ignored because there was already so much going on and making fun of the usual "participants" was more fun and easier."If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning." ~Catherine Aird
