Summer holiday in France ..... Photos

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We have just returned from our 2 week holiday in France and Switzerland.

During our first week, we met up with Mr & Mrs Squeak and spent a very pleasant couple of days sight seeing and climbing (I also took Squeak up on my Tandem Paraglider).

The wife and I then spent some time hiking around the Chamonix area before making our first ever visit down to the Verdon area (down south, near to Cannes in the Alps Maritime). It's a pretty impressive set of Limestone gorges and stunning scenery - well worth the visit and we hope to explore the area again next year.

Anyway, here area a few photos taken during the French stage of the holiday .

Didn't you just get a new job? How did you get another vacation again so soon? ;)

Stunning scenery! That blue lake is gorgeous! Wow!
Thanks for the photos.

What is that underground tunnel?
What are those things that look like purple blocks of ice?

It's a man-made Ice Cave that is excavated into the 'Mer de Glace' glacier (above Chamonix) each year. It's just a toutisty spectical really, but gives you the opportunity to get very close up to the Ice Flow, in a safe/controlled manner. The natural colours are amazing - but the purple and blocks are man-made (it seems that some people just need to improve on nature[:/] )

:$ - It's not on route to the Alps for us - sorry .... but I did a tour of that area and 'The Beaches' & 'Graves' some years ago (that was a moving trip, for sure).
