Voting Thread: Stop And Smell The Roses 2

Recommended Posts

Well, the contest is officially over. I am very happy that I extended the contest, as we ended up having 16 entries this time. YAY! :)
I want to thank all of the people that related to me that this contest really made them be more aware of the little things in life. :$ I hope that they enjoyed their moments as much as I enjoyed reading the stories and viewing the pictures. :)
The "moment" stories were somewhat scarce this time though. But I want to let all of the entrants know that to ensure total voting equality, I had to do a bit of editing on their "moments" as to not give away whose moment it was. B| I do realize that some of you have shared your photos with others and I'm frowning at you! These pictures were supposed to be anonymous! >:(

I apologize to some of the entrants, as I had to do some adjusting to some of their pictures, as the sizes were either way bigger than what the contest rules stated, or they were a bit small and I had to try and enlarge them a bit, so everyone could see how great the pictures were! ;)

Remember as you start to place your vote, this contest was all about "stopping and smelling the roses." I want to remind you that we are voting for the quality of the "moment" not the quality of the "picture!"

Since I have discovered that everyone tends to be a bit of procrastinator, I am going to give everyone until midnight PST Sunday, July 12'th to place their vote. ;)

This was during a trip to Washington DC. I glanced up at the building and realized what a cool picture the reflection made.

Driving along PCH we spotted a secluded rocky beach so we decided to stop and enjoy it for a while. After a playing in the tidepools and sand for a while the tide started to come in and the waves crashing on the rocks was thunderous. Trying to capture the waves we were lucky enough to get a bird mid photo. I want to go back to this place, and melt into the sand.

I was opening the blinds and the sky looked so beautiful, I had to take a picture. It was a beautiful Monday morning.

Saturday, cycling into the South edge of Boulder. I was following two other cyclists, and suddenly we had two fawns running along in front of us. They would periodically dive into the brush and bounce off the wire fence hidden there, then come back out to the road to try to figure out an alternative.

I'm currently at work, and I was driving back to the office from the field, which is through woods on a dirt road with a max speed of 35. For some reason I was having trouble, going the speed limit, just enjoying the nice day (it rained yesterday). All of a sudden, I notice a black bird flying next to my vehicle, almost looking like it was going to try to commit suicide. I look more closely at it, to notice that it's a bald eagle, and it soars up to a nearby branch. Although, I was in a hurry to get some computer work done, i HAD to stop in the mosquito infested area and take a picture of this magestic animal. He posed for me, and I was able to get the above picture (even though I got bit up pretty good). Still think it's impressive! :-)

In search for a moment to enjoy, I decided to go up the road to a lookout point on the mountain neighboring my place of residence. Upon arrival, the clouds had moved back in and made for some poor photos. No view whatsoever. So I decide to start hiking up the trail towards the top to see if I can get over the clouds to get some pictures. Seems almost as thought the clouds were taunting me, as they seemed to increase in elevation as I did. I gained some ground and started getting a few breaks in the clouds. I was able to pick out a peak in the distance and got some pictures of that, but wasn't satisfied. I had sunshine, a nice cool breeze and the mountain was calling. I worked my way up, snapping photos all along the way. Finally I reached the peak. From there, I worked my way around the crater at the top to the highest point on the hill (slight understatement). I couldn't believe I almost didn't climb up there! My ancient camera didn't like the light settings, so it whited out many of the cloud shots I took at the top, but the sights are in my mind. This is a view on my descent, as the clouds parted in appreciation of my dedication.

This puppy found a bat and was carrying it around, playing with it. I thought it was so cute that I had to follow him, taking many pictures until I could get a good shot.

If it wasn't for your contest, I probably would have walked right past this sunflower and wouldn't have noticed the bees on it but you made me be on the "look-out" for cool things! There's not much else to say about the photo other than I thought it was cool that three bees were on it, and I'm glad I took the shot because 2 bees left within a few seconds and went to a different sunflower.

We went for a hike and the light cascading through the trees combined with the moisture created a rainbow effect amongst the trees. It was very moving to stand there surrounded by these beautiful trees - it was very humbling.

I continued to climb and by the time I considered turning around, I found myself so close to the summit, that I couldn't bring myself to just turn around. I had to get to the top. I had sunshine, a nice cool breeze and the mountain was calling. Finally I reached the peak. It's a task many dream of, several set out to do but never complete, and a select few actually accomplish. Waiting for me at the top was a Shinto Tori Gate and shrine.

People don't have to be the only ones who stop and smell the roses. I was crossing a 1 lane bridge, when I saw this little guy, standing in the water drinking water. He didn't mind that I was there, so i stopped and took a few pictures of him enjoying the beautiful day!

:$ You're very welcome!

I enjoy running it because it gives me pleasure to see folks actually stepping outside of their normal comfort zone, [B]JUST to stop and take in a moment they might not otherwise have done. :)
Hopefully, the habit will stick! ;)
