grimmie 186 #229 May 6, 2009 The Sprint Center arena is brand new... http://www.sprintcenter.com/default.asp?sprintcenter=88&urlkeyword=Arena_Info It is managed by AEG, the same bums that run the LA Kings. Gretz won't want to toil in Hamilton or Kitchener, and the league wants a stable market new arena to move to. What is a better marketing ploy than having the "Great One" bring an NHL team to a cow town near you? The only question left will be..."Scouts" or "Coyotes"! Andrewwhyte 1 #231 May 6, 2009 QuoteI think the Coyotes will end up in Kansas City. That seams to be Bettman's preference. Bettman cares about TV revenue and an Ontario will contribute little to that. They are not opening new markets up there. KC is less certain to succeed, but offers new fans. The referee felt like a home-made turd...it was written all over his face but the call had been made and the game is in the books. masterrig 1 #234 May 6, 2009 That ref either #1- really did lose sight ogf the puck or #2 he didn't want to work over-time! Stevie Wonder could've seen that puck go in the net then that big fucking Duck flopping on it. I didn't catch 'why' they couldn't review it but, it's history. They should suspend that ref for the rest of the series!edit to add: I checked it out... no review because play was stopped when the ref blew the whistle. According to the ref's manager, the ref lost sight of the puck and blew the whistle to stop play... correct call. The Wings just have their work cut-out for them. Chuck I kind of feel bad for the Redwings but I've seen that particular play happen numerous times. The ref is suppose to blow the whistle as soon as he loses sight of the puck. IMO the ref, who was obviously fixated on the near post, waited too long before blowing the whistle. Other than that it was a great game and Hiller the Killer puts out another MVP performance. Hopefully Wisniewski is ok. Gotta give it to him. Takes a puck to the chest and stays in the play long enough to get a whistle and a cheap shot from Holmstrom.www.FourWheelerHB.com

Chuck In the cases where the ref actually blows the whistle, it makes perfect sense to be non-reviewable. Any player on the ice could have heard the whistle, stopped skating, looked away, etc. changing the outcome of the play. What I heard from the announcers and read in at least one story today (that I can re-find the URL for) is that the current rules are once the ref "intends" to blow the whistle, the play is dead - even if it takes him a second to get the whistle to his mouth and blow it. This is why that play is not reviewable under todays rules. Under today's rules the play was dead before the puck crossed the line, just no one on the ice knew it because the whistle hadn't blown. The replay shows the puck crossing the line just slightly before the ref has the whistle to his mouth, but the whistle isn't really the end of the play, which was some thought of the ref a second prior. The rules as written are terrible, the actual whistle should be the end of the play and those types of goals should be reviewable. As heard on another mailing list, "There's a reason that the NHL is on Versus... and this game shows exactly why"It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

From the replay, however, it looked to me like he got injured because his arms were up delivering a cross check, allowing the puck to sneak into a soft spot on his pads and make hard contact with his chest. If his stick had been on the ice and not on a Redwings player's back, he probably would have been healthy to deliver some kind of retaliation on Holmstrom for the elbow Edit: minor wording changesIt wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention
masterrig 1 #240 May 6, 2009 According to the story I read, the ref was standing at the side of the net looking down at the goal line. As the players approached the net, he moved around to the back of the net. At an almost split second after the puck entered the net, there was a Duck player sprawled-out in the net and on top of the puck. All anyone can figure is, the ref lost sight of the black puck amongst the blur of black uniforms. Like you said, this happens. The game was loaded with cheap shots from both sides. Like the cheap shot to the back of Osgood's head from Brown... after the whistle! Then, after the game, Pronger came across the ice and nailed Datsyuk, who was just going to his bench... the game had ended! Any time the Wings and Ducks get together, that's just what happens. To continually, only point-out the 'cheap shots' from the wings, isn't quite fair. the Ducks are known for 'cheap-shots'. Chuck

I've already said the Ducks play dirty. I shouldn't have to point out their dirtyness since it should be assumed. Also I saw Getzlaf take a dive last night (no-call) which is disapointing to say the least. But yes...I just want to make people aware the Redwings are not saintly. If anything....Kunitz should get at least a 1 game suspension.www.FourWheelerHB.com
masterrig 1 #244 May 6, 2009 You don't have to with me! I've watched the Wings long enough to know they are anything but 'saintly' They are a team that won't back-down and will stand-up for themselves. They give back what they get.
