skittles_of_SDC 0 #1 July 6, 2009 Plan to watch it or if you will be at work, record it? It's gonna be blowing up a lot of stations. ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and E! Entertainment are all confirmed to be carrying it. This obsession with MJ is ridiculous. Hopefully all this media coverage will be buried with his body. MikeJD 0 #4 July 6, 2009 Quote This obsession with celebrity is ridiculous. Fixed it for you. I won't be watching - I find this sort of thing depressing. The 'public outpouring of grief' at the death of Princess Diana was one of the most disturbing media events I've ever seen - it makes me worried for our collective sanity. I guess there'll be similar scenes at Jackson's memorial service, and if I was watching I'd probably have to yell at the TV. Edited to add: if everyone who's gone out and bought his albums in the last few days (HMV reported an 80-fold increase in sales) had done so while he was still alive, maybe he'd have been under a little less stress! skydiver30960 0 #5 July 6, 2009 At best, the man was a twitchy, weird megamillionaire who didn't know what to do with his money. At worst, the man was a known pedophile who used his megamillions to get a away with it. I do not think I could possibly care less that he's been swept off the face of this Earth. LuckyMcSwervy 0 #9 July 6, 2009 I've hardly turned on my television since all of the celebrities decided to collectively roll 7s the last couple of weeks. I can't take all of the insane coverage... Always be kinder than you feel.
riddler 0 #10 July 6, 2009 Don't watch TV, don't care that much about celebrities, and don't really listen to MJ. Why are all the radio stations playing his songs? It's tempting to say because he died, but I really think they were scheduled play from months ago to hype his world tour. He was a talented musician, but personally, I can't separate hearing the songs and his fondling of small children. Same with Metallica, I used to like them, but after the RIAA thing, their tunes make me nauseous. The funny thing is that MJ never confessed to pedophilia, so no one can say for sure that he did - it's just an assumption I made, and now I can't stand to listen to the music.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. NWFlyer 2 #16 July 6, 2009 Quote No. Instead, I'll be going to a memorial service for someone who actually knew my name. Yeah, what she said. I have never understood public mourning for celebrities of any stripe. Sure, if someone whose work I admire dies, I'll say "oh, that's sad, he/she won't be producing any more movies/books/music." But the "sadness" I feel will be nothing even close to grief and my reaction will not be mourning. I reserve that for people who are actually part of my life and with whom I actually interact (e.g., friends and family)."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Two from AIDS, one from Cancer. They knew my name. That doesn't mean I can't spread the compassion to someone I didn't know personally. He still made an impact. My heart goes out to his kids. AggieDave 6 #19 July 6, 2009 I'm not going to watch something that glorifies a pedophile! Its too bad that now that he's dead he's being treated as a saint. Think what this does to his previous victims.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

chiquita24 0 #21 July 7, 2009 I don't know if I'll watch the whole thing, but I will probably have it on. I think I'm the only one besides LisaH who is going to watch. SivaGanesha 2 #25 July 7, 2009 QuoteNo. Instead, I'll be going to a memorial service for someone who actually knew my name. Yes, I understand this. Ken didn't know my name either and yet I seriously considered attending his funeral. In the end I've decided to leave the 'skydiving contingent', so to speak, at his funeral to those who actually jumped with him, and to honor his life by getting back to the DZ this weekend and making the best jumps I possibly can. But it was not an easy decision. Sometimes a funeral represents the passing of an era that we need to honor even though we didn't know the deceased. For many people now in their forties, they grew up with Michael Jackson and so it marks the end of a part of their youth. They are choosing to remember Michael Jackson at his best and are choosing not to focus on the somewhat strange path he went down in his later years."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014
