virgin-burner 1 #4 June 26, 2009 well, what are you talking then!? MJ, wether you like him or not, has revolutionized pop-music. frankyboy surely hasnt. yes, the beatles inspired many more.. how do you want to measure? just because "you're bad" and dont like MJ? i think record sales is a measurable data. 750'000'000 is pretty big! even i have one, but none of the beatles nor from "the voice"..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. It's hard for me to put into words why, but I just don't put MJ on the same level as Frank or The Beatles.

virgin-burner 1 #9 June 26, 2009 this is what wikipedia has to say but there's also brittney spears and the backstreet boys in there, so.. i'd be careful! MJ has five albums on that list. beatles has three. none of mr. sinatra. couple elvis albums.. JUST SAYING..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. One should probably factor Elvis into the discussion. Or, if one prefers: I hereby suggest that Elvis also be factored into this discussion by participants in this thread. bluepill 0 #16 June 26, 2009 Quote Indeed they did. Apt comparison? Discuss. Yes it is. All sold millions and their music spanned many generations. MJ probably spanned more than the others and his iconic status was/is truly global rather than just the Western world. BP
Andy_Copland 0 #17 June 26, 2009 For someone who doesn't like the BBC too much you sure do watch it a lot The whole media circus is busy painting him with "sure there was some controversy, but his music outshines all of that" So to be accepted as a child molester i guess you just need to sell albums. MikeJD 0 #18 June 26, 2009 Different generations, which makes it harder to compare. There must be a lot of 'kids' out there who are huge Michael Jackson fans but for whom The Beatles and Sinatra barely register because they're just before their time. Sure, they'll still hear the classic songs but they might not know the artist. If anyone's the odd one out there, I'd say it's Sinatra. For my money, not that great a singer - really a crooner (and of other people's songs).

AggieDave 6 #20 June 26, 2009 I will visit Neverland ranch when they do it up like Graceland and open it for the public. That would be interesting, if not a little scary. Maybe I'll be able to ride his train then (like the other posters have commented about). Maybe they'll even have "jesus juice" at the food court?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Zep 0 #23 June 26, 2009 Did BBC seriously just compare MJ to the Beatles and Frank Sinatra? Yeah thats very strange, to me the Beatles were shite Now if they had of compared him with the Stones and Sinatra Well that would just have show lack of taste. Gone fishing
SkyDekker 1,465 #24 June 26, 2009 QuoteIndeed they did. Apt comparison? Discuss. I think it is. Personal feelings about MJ aside. I do think he was the single most famous celebrity globally and don't think anybody will ever get close to that again. I think MJ's music touched more people and was listened to by more people than any other artist out there. I am not an MJ fan, but he was a great artist and a great performer and doubt there will be many, if any like him again.

At his peak, (which was early in his career), he was just another good singer. Through most of his career, he was a mediocre singer. Watch a documentary containing samples of his singing from across the years, and you will see for yourself. Had it not been for having made a lot of powerful friends who promoted his career, he would have faded away and been forgotten."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
