Sangi 0 #4 June 19, 2009 I remember before starting jumping, I thought the feeling of "going up" when the canopy is opening is incredible "Dream as you'll live forever, live as you'll die today." James Dean
JohnRich 4 #5 June 19, 2009 QuoteMinimum opening altitudes (as regulated by the USPA and CSPA) are 2500feet for A licensed skydivers and 2200 feet for B, C, and D. 2200 feet? Has it been changed from 2,000 feet? QuoteAnd considering the 600 to 800 feet it takes for a chute to open, I’ll stay above 3000 feet when I jump, anything lower would just be crazy! He seems to not understand that low hop n' pops don't use much altitude, since you're deploying while sub-terminal. Except for those two nit-picks, it's a pretty good presentation for whuffos. Im pretty sure this is the same one that was posted here a while back. He guy that wrote this is a poster here and i think he only has 60-100 jumps? So for his exp. not bad at all!Nothing opens like a Deere! You ignorant fool! Checks are for workers!
happythoughts 0 #7 June 19, 2009 Quote Additionally, it would be very hard to fight during freefall as well. I learned some of my best docks from watching professional wrestling. Reach down about 3 ft to the grip. As you fall sideways into the burble, roll onto your back. As you roll off the other side, take the grip.

A) "Skydiving Myth: Skydivers pull a rip cord" Author obviously doesn't know John Rich. (Or know anything about tandem rigs) B) "Skydiving Myth: You can talk or yell to each other during freefall" BS - I have had conversations in freefall - Lawndarts are fun, mmmmmkay! C) "Skydiving Myth: You can deploy your chute at any altitude" "Technically" you can. It may do you no good to do so - but yes, it is "possible" to deploy your chute ata ny altitude. D) "Skydiving Myth: You need to wear oxygen masks at very high altitudes" Someone PLEASE get this author a SIM!E)"Skydiving Myth: The higher the altitude, the more dangerous the jump." I think this is on a bell curve F) "Skydiving Myth: It’s possible to survive a terminal velocity impact" "Technically" possible because it has happened, but the likelyhood is so slim, only Jeb Corliss would consider attempting it.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

skydemon2 0 #11 June 19, 2009 How about... You dont have to breath in freefall because the oxygen comes thru your skin? I think I still believe that one! That statement was generally true, for all but the most exceptional circumstances, like your humungo-way dive. I wouldn't criticize him for that statement just because there may be rare exceptions. If he said that pressure suits don't need to be worn for skydiving, would you point to Joe Kittinger and say "not quite"? If you let a presentation like that get bogged down listing all the exceptions, then you reduce the quick generalized educational value.

I'd say the statement "you need to wear oxygen masks at very high altitudes" is definitely true, although you can get away without them at lower altitudes. >If he said that pressure suits don't need to be worn for skydiving, would >you point to Joe Kittinger and say "not quite"? If he said you don't need to wear pressure suits at extremely high altitudes, yes, he'd be just as wrong.
