zoobrothertom 5 #28 May 22, 2009 Judging from your responses so far, very subjective, you might just have what it takes to be a Skydiver. Go take the FJC, get involved and get used to having a Whuffo girlfriend that you can't throw on your back for a jump! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! So i was, am just very surprised. Always thought there were more of you....aahhh...me....sky diving folks! 31,264....wow. Yup.. and the percentage of women in the sport is fairly small..... and a lot of us could be construed as being fat by many of the younger male community who base everrything on looks. At 5'6" and currently 143 pounds, I'm considered a heifer by some.... HOLY SHIT.....When I started jumping in 1972 I was 6'2" and 145 pounds...I guess that is the reason I could make hundreds of jumps on rounds and still have OEM landing gear with no aftermarket titanium partsI am not 145 pounds anymore..amazing what a full life can do to you. shah269 0 #38 May 22, 2009 Perhaps I can help The measure of man can be gauged not only by the quality of his friends but more so by the quantity of beer and food said friends bring to the drop zone. Feel better? Bike guys usually always bring drinks and food to the party. Sure it may only be one or two bottles....you can't exactly carry a keg on a back of a bike....but it's usually a good bottle. NOW! If the bike guy is good....and I've done this in the past. He can get a good piece of meet, marinate it well, wrap it up in a few layers of foil and place it on or near the engine. After an hour of riding........LUNCH! Only catch your carbs have to be working perfectly or lunch could be infused with a bit of hydrocarbons. I've also made baked potatoes off my headers before. Also FYI guys/gals i jumped in a pair of Phoenix 2.0 Mesh Overpants http://www.newenough.com/browse/view_product_images/830 Now looking around I noticed that most of you guys have holes in your pants from all those landings. Now on my first jump I landed on my ass. Which was fine because these pants were designed to protect my bum if and when I fall off my bike. May offer a bit more protection than god old cotton. Furthermore, lids...I saw a few that people had them and they seemed.....less than....protective? Now I know you are falling at 130mph and well at some point one has to admit that no amount of protection will work. But after hearing the prices of these lids I was shocked! This is my lid, http://www.racingboutique.com/web/images/fotos/CascoCaberg4.jpg It was tested in a wind tunnel to be stable up to 140mph with chin up and chin down (+/- 40 dig). And I paid about $200 for it. Now a full face lid may not be ideal for this sport but...... http://www.lm-spares.co.uk/acatalog/cabergbreezeproductview.jpg this one may be perfect for some of you. It has a built in sun shield that can be flipped up and down. Approx Weight: 1.05Kg Rain Protection rims Scratch resistant visor Quick release strap Internal air ciculation Double anti-turbulence nape shield Sanititzed remoable lining And only $150. Not bad hu? Just my two cents. And I'm still amazed at the diversity of products available given the size of the community. The 'lids' are more for protection against collisions in flight than banging your head against terra firma, although at landings speeds (& some of the types of landings I've seen ) they do offer some protection. The biggest issue is keeping the weight down on headgear, as whiplash when you have a fast opening doesn't need any assiatnce. May it be the 1st of many more! AH OK! So though in my moto world 1kg is nothing, that pesky V^2 for this sport is a real serious issue! And though the lids are rated for crash speeds of about 140mph you guys really don't need that kind of protection. As for the pants, one of the guys in the moto forum suggested that if i'm going to pick up this hobby and still ride I should get this http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/leather_racing_suits/alpinestars/charger_leather_one_piece_motorcycle_suit.html one piece suit and maybe figure out how to attach "wings" under the arms and legs. So I can ride to the DZ, get off the bike, say hi, and jump! His idea was that if things went wrong, i could quickly be cleaned up since i would be in a zip lock bag. No - actually it seems pretty logical - I mean why do they seatbelt the tandems by their harnesses? Makes it easier to retrieve the harness after a crash - harnesses are expensive.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Nope...~that's actually why skydiving jumpsuits have 'handles' on the arms & legs... to make removal of the body quick & easy...Nothing worse that missing a load because the dz staff has to use a stick & a spoon to get some mushy guy into a bucket, off the landing area. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
