shropshire 0 #4 May 22, 2009 I'll be watching.... but Monaco is far from the best race of the season IMO. P.S - what is a sick car? One that isn't working properly or something? bluepill 0 #6 May 22, 2009 People watch F1 for the spectacle and the racing. People watch oval racing for the spectacle and the carnage. For proper wheel to wheel bar banging action... People watch any motorbike race. BP
airdvr 210 #7 May 22, 2009 F1 and IndyCar lost me a few years back. F1 races haven't been competitive in a while. Seems like one driver leaves the rest behind and you end up watching a race where, unless the driver in the lead f**ks up bad it would be difficult for him not to win. When CART split many of the big name drivers were lost in the rubble. Indy used to be a big deal..it was THE race. Now, not so much. They've both suffered under the weight of NASCAR and it's brilliant marketing plan. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

kingbunky 3 #9 May 22, 2009 sorry, you're all wrong. F1 may have the best cars, but WRC has the best drivers, hands down. they drive on dirt, pavement, in rain and snow, in towns, forests, mountains, often all in the same day. sundevil777 102 #10 May 22, 2009 Street circuit racing suffers due to it being so hard to pass. That is one thing NASCAR does have on the others. I think the entire idea of pit stops ruins things. The performance in the pits is critical, but it isn't racing. If I wanted to see a pit stop competition, that would be a different event. Also, the fact that the timing of the pit stops relative to caution flags is so important detracts from the racing - it shouldn't be a factor, it isn't racing, it's luck. I think it would be better to have shorter heats run on one tank of fuel, with fewer cars in each heat leading up to a main event, much like some other types of racing. It sure would be a lot more exciting if the yellow flag didn't come out so often, it should be like motocross where they just have to deal with it! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
huge 0 #11 May 22, 2009 Formula 1 lost me couple of years ago. These days races are won at the start and during the pitstops, not on the track. Legends Cars are more to my taste. Lots of drivers, relatively cheap cars and more power than grip. You get to see very competitive racing but quite often there is also carnage for those who prefer it In northern Europe you can also see them race on ice ovals
yoink 321 #12 May 22, 2009 I've never got into F1 racing for all the reasons above until this season. They've changed a load of the rules that makes it all much more competative - hell, a scratch team is out performing all of the other big manufacturers at the moment! Even qualifying is quite interesting now as it's a mini competition in itself with knockout phases and tyre implications for the main event. Monaco's a great circuit, but as people have stated above, not the best for overtaking action.
Keebler 0 #13 May 22, 2009 F1 uncompetitive, are you nuts??? the big teams are behind, McLaren and Ferrari, and are spending tons of money to catch up. They eventually will and when they do it is going to be very close. It's not just a pitstop competition, it is a strategy competition. If you choose to be light during qualifying (q3) you are going to be faster then the heavier cars, but you will be forced to pit earlier. Every race has what is called a pitstop window, the time it takes to drive down pit lane, and take fuel and tires, normally between 20 and 30 seconds. So what you are watching for is the leader/leaders to build that gap, so they can come into the pits, and come out ahead of the rest of the field. Monaco is very tight, so it does not promote over taking but there still will be some.

Keebler 0 #16 May 22, 2009 I honesty think Spa-Francorchamps is the best race of the season, but Monaco is a bigger spectacle and the track hasn't really changed in 50 years.

Brawn is not a scratch team. They may have a small budget this year, but the car they're racing was designed with about £300M of Honda's money last year. IMO the quali session on saturday is going to be more interesting than the race on sunday, but who doesn't love just watching those cars thread their way around that gorgeous city at 170mph?Do you want to have an ideagasm? JerryBaumchen 1,367 #25 May 23, 2009 Hi Quade, Without any doubt the Indy 500 is 'the' most popular single car race in this country. But I like the 24 Hours of LeMans as 'the' ultimate car race. Very demanding of both the cars & the drivers. Just my old $.02, JerryBaumchen
