JSE 1 #1 May 8, 2009 My parents want to take the family on an Alaska cruise. They don't have the best track record of picking places that we, their adult children, will also enjoy. So do you think that that my sister and I (ages 23 and 26) will enjoy it? I don't need to party hard or anything, but I don't want to spend 7-10 days sitting around playing bingo with a bunch of octogenarians. Also, what cruise lines do people recommend? I think that they were looking at Princes and Royal Caribbean. PS I did look at the other thread on this topic too.

LongWayToFall 0 #3 May 9, 2009 This website is the shit for finding cheap cruises. I figured I could get a cruise to mexico for rock bottom prices due to the whole sickness thing, but they must have canceled them, because there are not many. We went on a carnival cruise, and it was cool. Lots of drinking going on. Hey the secret about getting booze on board is that they allow you to bring one wine bottle, so what you do is make it a red wine, drink the wine, refill with 151 and re cork it. They don't check it that much so its easy. We had a casino and club on our boat, so there was lots going on. I would check out the late night activity list to see if its an old people cruise or not. Have fun!

Bum 0 #5 May 9, 2009 I've done a few Alaska cruises (living in Vancouver helps). Royal Caribbean will be a slightly younger crowd, but you'd also have a good time on Princess. The ships are large enough (2000+ passengers) that even though there's lots of oldies aboard there's still lots in the younger age groups too. Lots to do on the ships, they've turned keeping people interested into a science. It helps too if you happen to like mountains and glaciers. Tons of excursion options in every city you stop at, or you can walk three blocks to the "Red Dog Saloon" and make your own shore excursion. This is the year to go, prices are obscenely low because folks need to get motivated to travel these days. Next year the cruise lines are pulling some ships out of Alaska so expect to see the fares go back up then. Cheers, Doug the DZ Bum
