Finding used gear my size.

Those discount vouchers do exist; they're popular prizes at boogies and competitions. If you won one and you're not going to use it, why not sell it for whatever you can get for it? It's all profit as you didn't pay anything for it...

Ask for the serial number and check with Wings if you're unsure.

but it just doesn't seem like one could reasonably say no to a $350 new wings container

Read it again. The person is not selling a container. They are selling a certificate good for 50% off a brand new, custom container.

...and that usually means 50% off the full suggested retail, before options, which big dealers will commonly beat by 20% without a certificate. So they are not really so valuable.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I think you misunderstand.

I don't think he's selling the rig for $400, but he's selling the gift-certificate for %50 off.

Send him $400, he sends you a certificate that entitles you to buy at $1,400 rig for $700.

Then you buy the rig for an additional $700.

So - you're getting a $1,400 rig for $1,100. Not a bad deal.

Brilliant, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the clarification, I knew something had to be wrong there.

So used rigs, eh? ;)
I really don't know what I'm talking about.

The way I read this is that you are having some confusion. They are not selling a custom container. They are selling you a coupon worth 50% off a custom container. You will get the coupon and have $400.00 invested. Then you can buy a new Wings container, use the coupon, and pay around $750.00. That would put you @ $1,150.00 for a brand new container. Still a good deal if it is the container you are wanting to purchase.

Let me get this straight, a new wings is about $1500 list price. The $400 coupon allows one to buy that rig for 50% off, which is about $750. That brings the total cost of the rig to about $1150.

My experience over the last 14 or 15 years is that most dealers or subdealers routinely offer discounts of 20%, 25%, and even 30% .

20% off $1500 is $1200.
25% off is $1125.
30% off is $1050.

Seems to me, for a good shopper, the $400 coupon would at best get you an average deal.
