Uhh, bring it to me...I'll gently kiss it and make it better.

OMG!!!:ph34r::ph34r: I haven't torn off my nipple!!! It's a tear on one side that is about 3mm long.. Significant, but hardly life-threatening!!!

My main concern isn't whether is will heal or get infected.. I have 17 piercings, so am familiar with how to care for them..

What I'm not so sure about is migration (when a piercing moves from where it was originally put & heals "crooked"). It's unlikely to be rejected, as the "wound" isn't so deep, it's an old piercing, etc.. But I'm just not sure how it will heal if I put it straight in again (which I think would normally be a better idea if well looked after).

I know lots of piercers are probably unreliable drug-dealers who like playing with needles.. But on the same token, I doubt a doctor would know the first thing about piercing migration.. :S D'oh..

If anyone knows a reliable source or has had this happen, please let me know what was the outcome..

Thanks for all the responses.

I have torn mine before, thats why I originally offered some advice. I would keep it in. I didnt with mine the first time and had to have it (both actually) repierced. Here is the thing, it is better to keep it in, care for it, and watch it. It shouldnt migrate from the description you have given but if it starts to or suddenly notice months from now that it's crooked...THEN take it out. Then you can have it redone later. Look at it this way, you can either take it out now and deal with the scar tissue and having to repierce through the scar tissue (which actually didnt hurt me at all) or you could wait and see and might not have to have it redone.

As I said before, ask your piercer...

That is not a piercing, that is a wound.

It may be a jagged cut which is superficial, or it may be worse requiring medical attention.

None of us can tell from here now can we?

But hey maybe you are a physician.

how deep is the laceration, do you know?

If it was very deep at all she would be at the hospital.

Honestly... these questions and the half joking comments on the pictures are actually VERY VALID points.

When the piercing was ripped from the tissue, how much damage was done?

If this is a true laceration, depending on the type of scar you want, you should get it looked at by a professional. It might need to have the wound closed... maybe even surgically.

Without seeing it and without a full history, any advise you get over the internet is foolish at best, dangerous at worst.

Especially if it continues bleeding.... GO TO THE DOCTOR!!

Ummm.. Yes.. Laceration is a bit strong... If a car hit you going 0.2mph, you might have been "hit" by it, but it's not gonna kill you! I did try to post a pic, but as I said, my camera is fairly crap, so you can't see anything at all. Now it's cleaned up, it's hard to tell anything happened anyway.

It's definitely not going to scar or be visible.. Just wonder if it'll re-heal crooked. Piercings can migrate over time even without anything happening to the piercing..

Note it stopped bleeding not long after I took off the band-aid - probably cause it got some fresh air.. But when it happened this morning, much like when you cut yourself shaving, it's wet and you don't want to stain your clothes while you wait for the bleeding to stop...

It will definitely be A-ok..

Still curious if anyone has had this happen & how it turned out if they did put the piercing straight back in.. I'm leaving it alone for now, except to care for it & keep it from getting infected. Pretty unlikely, though, as it's just on one side where the ball got caught in the door..

Edit to say: jtnesbitt - just read your last post.. Good advice.. Think I will leave it be for a couple of days and try that.. It's unlikely to close in such a short time!

No idea what that means.. But anyway, here is a picture of the jewelry I had in. Until I put it back in my piercing, I'm unable to determine whether the piercing has been stretched on one side or if the tear is actually a surface "scratch" from the "pendant" bit (which also got stretched & pulled off when the ball came flying off). Maybe it was actually this bit that got caught, but it was a swift motion & impossible to tell.

I don't understand why you don't contact a reputable piercer and get their input?

Only because I don't know any reputable piercers over here and also I just started a new job and am working crazy hours at the moment.. Hard to find time to step away from my desk, and I'm getting home when everything is shut..

I'll call various piercers on Saturday, but in the meantime welcome some input from people on here that know what they're talking about. Obviously I'm taking everything with a large dose of salt!!!

No need for salt - I swear everything that I said would be the truth.

You are NEVER supposed to use antibiotic ointment or cream on piercings....

I wish we were in a room so I could ask the following question:

"Of all the people offering advice how many people have their nipples pierced?"

As I said before, ask your piercer...

I'm going to go to the instructors forum and start telling everyone how to put out S/L students even though i have never done it before.

(Edit for poor spelling)

ah no, I don't have my nipple pierced but I do have some initials behind my name when I sign my charts emt (emergency medical technician) P.M. (paramedic) and R.N. (registered nurse)
and a few others...

anyway I hope you heal quickly if it looks infected see your MD.

Awww.. Come on you two.. Kiss and make up :P (And take video :ph34r::ph34r:)

You both have very good points - you're just coming at it from different angles...

From a medical standpoint, putting a foreign object in one's body is probably inherently stupid and unnatural.. Putting various things on wounds to help heal seems like the right thing to do - to help the wound heal

From a piercing point of view, putting creams or ointments on a piercing that is healing is harsh and prevents proper healing of a piercing.. Concern is all about ensuring nothing infects or irritates the piercing.

Both correct in the right context.

No more fighting, ok? We all agree that it needs to be treated with due care to prevent infection :)
I think my *right* breast needs to be gently massaged to help me forget about my left nipple ;):ph34r:

i got my navel repierced yesterday;) pain wasn't at all bad like some have said of repiercings. can't wait for it to heal!!!!

Aww - good for you :)
My little injury is doing very well, I'm pleased to say.. No thanks to anyone here - only about 2 volunteers to help console me!! >:(

I think it's going to be just fine. It already looks and feels (almost) like nothing ever happened.. Just hope there won't be any migration. Hard to tell right now as I've just put my jewelry back in.
