Boeris 0 #1 April 7, 2009 Hey All, Just wondering if many of the jumpers on here ride sportbikes? Race? Or do track days? I have 2 GSX-R750's, one street and one track. I did a lot of trackdays out a PIR the season before last and a little at the beginning of last season. I really wanted to get into racing...theeeeeeen I started skydiving! I would still love to do it, but I think I would definitely have to work hard to balance the 2 sports. They are both very expensive! I still ride street all the time, but the track bike has sat since last summer. Partly because I blew the motor and dumped money into skydiving and not the bike :-) I have several trackdays already paid for, so now I am left wondering, keep spending cash like crazy on skydiving/BASE and ride the street bike on the track, or slow down the spending a bit so I can fix the damn track bike? Then, do I sell it or keep it (and risk breaking it again, making it hard to sell)? Tooooo many options LOL. My bikes are both 02's so I have kind of been fantasizing about a new G1k! I'll probably end up fixing the track bike and selling them both with all the extras piled up in my storage unit and buying a new gixxer 1K to use on street and track. So racing may be out of the question for now. I think racing (seriously, without sponsors) is just as expensive as skydiving. I've probably spent 20k in the last 10 months on skydiving, gear, training camps, BASE gear etc etc... Enough about me, what do you ride and where? Is it possible for a middle class salary person to be consumed in both sports? Have a great day!www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. downwardspiral 0 #2 April 7, 2009 I ride street on my yzf600r. Whenever I have some chica tell me she likes Harleys better, I just wink at her and say well that's great but I'd rather ride than polish. Yeah no interest in track but every now and then I do get 'er up to 90mph on the freeway. www.FourWheelerHB.com
Remster 30 #3 April 7, 2009 Maybe one day I'll take it on the track, but since its my main motorized mode of transport (with the non-powered version my main one overall), I only ride street to and from work. And I would never exceed the speed limit. Ever. Nope. Not me. Huh huh.Remster
Boeris 0 #4 April 7, 2009 Nice! Yeah, you know they only polish everything so they can find it when it falls off right? LOL Be safe on the street man... I hit 186 on the front straight at PIR, going into T1 was buttpucking to say the least!www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. hypsin 0 #7 April 7, 2009 Just finished breaking in spanking-new r6 (my second r6, first one was my learner bike - loved it... trashed it...). Planning on lat moving her from street to track towards the end of the summer and getting heavy into it next season. I try to split $$$ equally across all my toys and obsessions but as you said - it is hard work. Plus - skydiving does seem to give you more bang per $. hypsin 0 #9 April 7, 2009 Quote Beautiful bikes. How do you get the flames to shoot out of the pipes? Thanks, I split main fuel line and added an electric fuel pump to inject fuel directly into the pipes. Then add coils + wirings + sparkplugs = homebuilt flamethrower... Great tailgate control tbh... jtnesbitt 0 #10 April 7, 2009 My first bike was a Katana 600 and i sold it to buy a GSX-R750. I loved both of them but sold to gsxr for a skydiving rig. To be honest i got tired of playing frogger with minivans and getting harassed by cops cuz there were too many other people on street bikes in my area terrorizing everyone. While bikes were a lot of fun and i certainly miss hoping on one and twisting the throttle I find skydiving much more rewarding and safe. To me it was also about assumption of risk. If something happens to me skydiving or BASE jumping thats one thing, its in my hands, but I dont feel like dying or being paralyzed from some minivan hitting me because the person driving it was on the cell, drinking coffee, screaming at her kids, breast feeding her baby, doing their taxes, and making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich."If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero

Be forewarned, once you get on the track it gets addictive and spendy. I've spent almost 400 on JUST tires...that lasted ONE DAY! If you start racing it gets crazy spendy if you don't have sponsors. I agree, skydiving (once you are licensed and have you gear) is the best spent cash! I can't wait to start BASE, shit I've spent over 2500 and haven't even jumped yet. EvilEagle 0 #19 April 8, 2009 I raced or trackday'd pretty much every weekend for about 4 years in both the UK and when I moved back to the States. I sold my last racebike (GSXR) but I still have my Mille R that I have both street and race stuff for. I do a few track days a year and I'm still a licensed racer, but for the cash and wear and tear on my body, I skydive more. Racing is a great community, but it's much more cutthroat than skydiving. I love racing and riding (I ride my BMW R1200 GS Adv everyday). And I love passing people with newer faster bikes on the track, but for me, it's just easier and less painful to spend the money on jumping. It's a much more portable sport, and the parties are better (ususally). Watch out at PIR - not too much runoff up there!
