1000 jumps vs 4000 jumps......on gear that is

I bought a used rig from my (former) home DZO.

It is an old Sabre 150 and seems to fly fine to me (as far as I, with low experience can tell). A packer told me around 20 or so jumps ago that it "feels like it has around 1000 jumps or so on it." OK. That would make it easier to pack and I suck at packing, so cool. I've heard stories of people saying that they put several thousand on their Sabre. It was the original. Yada yada.

So, a few questions:

1) How many jumps can these ZP canopies handle?

2) What is the most jumps anyone knows of that someone (well, all historical owners) have put on a single canopy?

3) Can you really tell whether or not a canopy has 1000 jumps vs 5000 jumps?

This is the only question I can answer... I saw our 4-way camera-man chop his Stiletto after the top-skin of a cell ripped from nose to tail. The canopy had between 2,500 and 3,000 jumps on it and, yeah, he'd just been too lazy/cheap to replace the thing.

I have a Sabre 135 that I bought new in 1991.
This canopy has been used for water jumps, beach demos,and anything else you can imagine. I had it relined once, and it still looks and flies great. If you keep it out of the sun, and take care of it, there is no reason a zp canopy can't last several thousand jumps.
As far as being able to tell how many jumps are onit by just looking at it, well, I don't possess Jedi mind powers, but maybe this packer does.

have a rigger take a look at it or, better yet, send it to PD. They are the best in the business for a reason, and won't try to sell you a new canopy just because yours has a few jumps on it.

A big factor on what a canopy looks/feels like depends a great deal on how it is taken care of, and where it is jumped. A canopy that is packed indoors, and jumped in an area without environmental factors (sand, etc) will stay feeling "new" for longer than one that sees lots of sunlight, and sand, and salt water, etc. People from around here with fairly new canopies (a couple hundred or so jumps) bring them down to arizona, and after 30 or 40 jumps there, it is noticeable due to the dust in the air.

The pack said it "feels" like it has around a thousand or so jumps on it. Obviously just a guesstimate, I guess an edgumacated one.

My Sabre 150 DOM is 3/91. Not a youngin', but again, works fine for me - especially for a first canopy.
