Will Social Networking kill the Boogie Vibe

Recommended Posts

With the explosion of myspace, facebook, etc.-Has anyone altered or toned down their boogie antics due to fear of becoming an internet star?

Will such concerns have a negative impact on attendees being able to let their hair down when the beer light goes on?
Personally, I'm hyper careful because I'm not willing to bet that even if it doesn't matter what photos are online now, it won't EVER matter.

I will refrain from doing a few things from now on, but it won't keep me from having a good time, raisin' hell, participating in shenanigans and fuckery, and runnin' around nekkid.
Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

Meh, I think that while certain people may slow down a bit, there will still always be fuckery because, if nothing else, alcohol is a very impressive social lubricant.

I'm a fan of some of the discussions here, like the idea of a "camera free zone" at SkyFest or whatever.

Will the explosion of sites where young women make a habit of posting pics that show off their bodies kill the boogie vibe?

Doubtful.

I think some people who do stupid shit at boogies would be disappointed if it DOESN'T end up on the internet.

Camera Free Zone is code for "Find innovative ways to hide a camera because this is where the good stuff will happen"!

Let's face it, what happens in Vegas, no longer stays in Vegas.

I wasn't a believer when someone first said it, but there needs to be camera free zones, or hours..... the nudity, and shenanigans levels in this sport have been dropping right off the map.

Can't argue with that point. If people have to remember something, they may shy away from doing it.

....buuuuuut, I can say that I think the vibe at the St. Patty's Day Boogie was pretty awesome due to social networking stuff. People who had previously never met but on the forums and on facebook were looking to meet up at the boogie and it seemed like people were introducing themselves to each other more so than normal. Spence throws boogies with good vibes anyways, but it seems like while the fuckery may seem like it's going down (you may be in the wrong tent ;)), the clickery may also be going down and people are hanging out in bigger and bigger groups again.

Not making a statement for or against, just another angle to look at.

I concur. If someone is offering a "camera free zone", it's totally because they've already got a hidden camera set up there. ;) Or at least that's what I would do. :)

For me...I don't give it a thought, I mean what's the worse that could happen as far as harm to my reputation at this point - what are they gonna do 'ruin' me....?
~ it's not like if I 'act-up' they can strap me to a red head and make me live in Texas!

In your case you shouldn't be concerned either~:)

I don't think they made a flash card big enough hold a picture of yer immenseness...so not to worry. :S

And like GonZo has proven, once everybody has seen the picture of his tongue in a dead goats ass...any possible boogie antics are mundane & anti climatic. :|

Just not here any time soon. I just looked out the window and there's a fresh dusting of snow on the ground. Brrrrrrr!!!!

Hi divot,

What is interesting is that today's OREGONIAN newspaper has a substantial article on:

'Sexting: Dumb prank or child porn?

It seems as though a few young, teenage girls were at a party when a photo was taken and electronically distributed around. According to the article it had something to do with oral sex and an animal.

The DA is considering a child porn prosecution of the girl who sent it around. In this state, that would be a Measure 11 crime ( a predetermined minimum sentence; judge has no discretion ) and a lifetime of being a registered sex offender.

There's this party I go to every year, and one of the places they have there is a naked sauna/hottub/music stage/volleyball net playing area. The rule is NO CAMERAS...

...There are folks who volunteer their time to be security at this particular event. Folks who have tried to bring cameras/videos/cell phones, etc... in, have been kicked out. It works real good, and everyone knows they are safe from cameras there!

I have boogie videos from WFFC that go back to
96 or 97. There was plenty of nudity and whatever.

Those videos had limited circulation though.

With the internet, digital cameras, and camera phones - your life is just a Google search away.

I've probably been in a few pictures that people
wouldn't approve of.

In the past, personal weirdness, that should not be
shared, happened at a campsite or trailer - out of public view.

I don't think that things will change that much.
