Dumpster 0 #27 December 25, 2002 I got some GREAT t-shirts (none were skydiving related, but awesome just the same!) Best gift so far has to be the brewing kit the wife got me- Has to be the best non-skydiving gift a skydiver could get! And the look on my wifes' face when she opened my gift to her from Victorias' Secret! Easy Does It
narcimund 0 #28 December 25, 2002 My boyfriend found a glassblower to form me two handblown cognac sipping pipes. We discovered the thrill of drinking cognac from pipes in Vancouver BC a year ago at a restaurant that had two imported French pipes on display. We begged them to let us drink out of them and they let us. It was so amazing that I've dreamed and he's plotted to get me pipes to sip brandy from since then. The glassblower who made them is also a skydiver (tandem master) and base jumper, which makes it all the better. An amazing element in these clear glass pipes is that he embedded my initials drawn in blue glass so they can be seen while sipping. Spy38W 0 #29 December 25, 2002 Cognac sipping pipes? I tried entering that into yahoo, and all I got was a story about Marion Barry... "The U.S. Conference of Mayors opened its midwinter meeting in Washington last week, ironically with drugs as the focus of discussion. Conspicuously absent was the conference host, Washington Mayor Marion Barry, who shortly before was captured on a grainy FBI videotape apparently sipping cognac and smoking crack cocaine from a pipe." -- Hook high, flare on time
ECVZZ 0 #30 December 25, 2002 Quote two handblown cognac sipping pipes. That sounds very cool! Have you ever tried a good wheat beer or Ale from a "Yard"? Nowhere near as classy, but what fun to do with friends...there's nothing like "turning the corner" with a good Ale! Greg

Plummet 0 #32 December 26, 2002 My parents hunted down and found a copy of MAD Magazine from October 1966. This has Alfred E. Newman on the cover, skydiving. They had the cover matted and framed with the rest of the magazine inside the frame. (http://members.tripod.com/~Plummet/madmag.html) This is so friggin' cool that my parents support me in this. Of course, it doesn't hurt that dad made a couple of static lines and all of my brothers have jumped.-Jeff. http://www.iplummet.com Common sense and common courtesy are NOT common. I'll post pics as soon as I get the digicam from the office, probably tomorrow. They are incredible -- to use, as thoughtful gifts, and as handcrafts by a skilled artist. There will be much cognac drunk at tonight's party which starts in 1/2 hour. First Class Citizen Twice Over

Michele 1 #44 December 26, 2002 I got the best gift from my father. The absolute best gift. My father just celebrated his 80th birthday, and at the party, I had his family and friends write on gold paper their favorite memories and thoughts about him. My brother took photos of them with my father, too...one of my favorites is my niece (2 years old) flashing her belly at my father, and my father flashing his belly at her...with his underwear hanging out over his pants. I also had my father write out some of his favorite/most memorable moments from his life - like fighting in the CBI theatre, beginning to act, moving to California, and so forth. Then, one day when he wasn't home, I "stole" all the old photo albums. I found pictures which illustrated the stories, and scanned them onto the same gold paper, and put the stories on the gold paper with the photos. The photos spanned the '20's through now. My sister-in-law and I spent many hours putting together a scrapbook for him - black leather with his name embossed on the front. The pages were black, and so the whole thing was black and gold. You open it, and there is one of my favorite black and whites of him - sitting in the back yard, hair all wild, arms splayed, laughing. The caption read "He who laughs, lasts"...the photos were matched with the letters, and the stories and his history followed. There's a total of about 60 pages. It closes with a photo of my nephew in his jammies sitting on his Papa Len's lap, fast asleep...and so is my father... The look on my father's face, and the tears in his eyes as he read through it...that was the best present I could've ever gotten. I made my father smile. steve1 5 #45 December 26, 2002 I got a new set of K-2 shaped skiis. Seeing as how I can't jump right now I figured I might as well try to kill myself by going fast down a hill. I get my jollies by going way faster than I should. Lot's of fun but it still doesn't compare to skydiving. My daughters found a deal on snowboards, so it's been fun going up on the mountain together. Yesterday my oldest daughter got hung up on the T-bar and was drug quite a ways up the hill before the damn thing stopped. She did shed a few tears, but she's no quitter. We're gonna give it hell again tomorrow. Steve1
steve1 5 #46 December 26, 2002 Michelle, What a great idea and gift to your Dad! My oldest daughter has been making some collages of old pictures. Some of them are hilarious and others make you want to cry. They definitely are better than any gift you could find in a store. Steve1
