Usually, immediately after seeing the resume I set up the machine & laid down a bead or three. After that the very next thing asked is usually, "How soon can you start?" If that wasn't asked by the end of the interview I could count on not being called back. Only once did I get the call about 6 weeks later. Took the job, too, & stayed there for 13 years. Yup same here. Usually end up doing a weld test. Sometimes the test are just showing that i can run a decent bead in all positions and sometimes we test to CWB standards. My last weld test was under ANSI code for cranes and lifing equipment. All position on 1" mild steel plate with SMAW and FCAW tested with a side bend. Fun Stuff!Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)
DavidB 0 #27 March 11, 2009 Only ANSI test I ever took was a "grade 8" (pressure/vacuum) stainless, 16g, TiG, all position. That was way back in 1982 or 83 I think... BTW, the next job I held from 1986-2000 as a welder/fabricator. Although we were the "local welding shop" we specialized in drag race chassis/suspension roll cage work.Played with everything from junk street cars to hot rods to alcohol funny cars to even a post war vintage Indy roadster. One of the street rods, 1938 Willys coupe with a '40 one-piece tilt nose. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Fucking idiot! Where's Notre Dame University? Are they the team that plays Southern California University and Michigan University every year? Tim Brown said the same thing one time at the beginning of a MNF game when you introduce yourself and say what school you went to. Pretty sad that he doesn't know the name of his own school where he won a Heisman. I did that on purpose. I hate the University of Notre Dame. Bear Bryant never called Auburn University by its real name either.
