How/where was the neptune mounted?

From the documentation: Metal backplates were previously issued with Neptunes. Do NOT use one of these backplates alone with the narrow wrist strap; this setup will crack the display!

I have a neptune, and have had only one problem with it (the IR port stopped working, but they promtly replaced it for free). I only use it as an audible, I've never had the screen crack.

I've found Alti-2 to have outstanding customer service, I'm sure they'll tell you why the screen cracked if you ask!

I had a screen crack on me too. It was one of the four I have been through. I've finally given up on them. I never had one last more than 150 jumps. I now own a Pro-Track after the last one broke. Alti II had great customer service, but enough is enough. I want one I can rely on. I didn't even bother sending the last one in. Maybe I will some day.

I have an older model. I have it mounted directly on my glove - the metal backplate behind the leather of the glove, and the neptune on top, with screws going through the glove. I've been jumping with it for more than a year, and never had a problem (except the battery died due to my setting the backlight function on).
Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

A few months ago I was looking at a friends neptune in a carpeted rigging loft. I accidentally dropped it from about hip height. It landed on the carpeted floor and the case cracked. I couldn't believe it. Sorry, but I don't want to skydive with anything that breaks that easily. I will wait for L&B to come out with their new products. I have had a pro-track for years and never had any problems with it. Also, L&B's customer service is the best I have ever dealt with in any industry.

I used this exact setup and mine cracked at about 225 jumps. Alti blamed it on the metal backplate and replaced the Neptune. They gave me a fabric backing and told me to use it instead. That was about 150 jumps ago and so far, so good.
