millertime24 8 #4 February 25, 2009 What Ive done is hook my home pc to my 32"lcd tv (the smaller of the 2) so I can surf the web while watching NCIS. Anyhow, my pc is set up for surround so its just wired straight to my stereo reciever hence also connected to my ipod. But honestly if you're doing it that way then why not just play straight off of i-tunes? Well, hope that gives you an idea.Muff #5048
AggieDave 6 #5 February 25, 2009 Monster cable? Seriously? There are much better things to blow your money on. Monster cables aren't worth even 1/2 the money! For the same price you can get a docking station that also charges your iPod while you listen: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Dock-Wall-Charger-iPod/dp/B000U9WU0O/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235576412&sr=8-2--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." gmanpilot 0 #9 February 25, 2009 Or you could go in the other direction and get a Wadia Ipod transport. The sound from this thing is amazing. I ripped all my cd's into Apple lossless format, put them in a 160GB Ipod, and play it through this thing. It's the only way to get true cd quality music from an Ipod. http://wadia.com/products/transports/170i/_________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. It's the only way to get true cd quality music from an Ipod. http://wadia.com/products/transports/170i/ You might be right, but the whole idea is a little backwards. First, S/PDIF is not necessary for CD quality. That's like saying HDMI is necessary for 480p video. "CD quality" can be obtained (from a CD quality source) with a stereo analog signal, you can get the cable for 99 cents. Now, whether or not the processor in your iPod can reproduce CD quality... that is another story. However, if I understand the Wadia correctly, it isn't even using the iPod's processor, it has its own. So the thought process here is: 1) Buy pocket mp3 player with poor audio processing 2) Buy external processor to link to your iPod, to make up for its poor processing capability 3) Hook it up to your receiver with S/PDIF, which is totally unnecessary At this point, you're paying a huge premium for a crappy processor you don't even intend on using. You're also not getting "CD quality sound out of an iPod." You're getting CD quality sound out of the files stored on the iPod's disk. (there is a difference) You've turned your portable music player into nothing more than a HDD with a GUI, and there are cheaper alternatives for that. You'd be better off skipping step 1 and 2, and just building a small media server, or putting a decent sound card in your PC and either hooking it directly to your receiver, or using an extender.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
gmanpilot 0 #11 February 26, 2009 QuoteAt this point, you're paying a huge premium for a crappy processor you don't even intend on using. No, it bypasses the processor in the Ipod and sends a true digital signal to the processor in a A/V receiver or a stand alone digital/analog converter(that's how I use it). I bought it because it is the only portable source of bit-perfect music for my home system that can also be plugged into my car or any other system for that matter. It does video too, bit I'm using it strictly for audio in a fairly high-end system. For me, it was a pretty good mix of uncompromising sound quality, convenience, and affordability._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. lippy 918 #12 February 26, 2009 The iPod docking stations are getting pretty cheap. I've got an iLuv alarm clock, a big JBL On Stage for my kitchen and a smaller JBL for work. JBL makes a quality product and it's surprising how much sound you get out of those little fuckers!I got nuthin

Pinna 0 #14 February 26, 2009 Just picked up a new Pioneer receiver with a USB port on the front to accept an iPod. It takes full control of the iPod so I can use the receiver remote to control the iPod and displays the screen information on my TV. Works great!
